SUBJECT: # 4022: trailer lights pop fuses

Submitted by Monty (152.163.201.186) from VIRGINIA on 7/15/2000 9:20:00 PM

I have a 95 f-350 and whenever I launch or retrieve my boat I blow the fuse for the runningt lights, the one under the hood could this be a result of a poor ground???? any advice appreciated tight lines

You didn't mention if you unplug the trailer lights before entering the water or not. I always unplug and then when I'm out of the water and ready to hit the road, I plug them back up. A poor ground can cause many different problems including blowing fuses. Hope this helps...Loomisman :)

I was hoping there's a cure to this problem so that i didn'thave to uncouple the light wiring harness it used to work with a different truck and i never had any problems light wiring isn't rocket science so i know between us we can make it work especially when it worked before with a diff truck!!!! respect Monty

the plugs aren't getting wet..I wouldn't think that 350 would get the bumper wet so I don't think it's there.

I had this same problem years ago on a trailer that did'nt have sealed lights. Stumped the dealers repair guy for weeks. Turned out being one of the rear light bulb sockets. Turns out it had a loose connection and the bulb would vibrate on and off and would eventually blow the fuse.

I don't know if this will help but if you do not already have a seperate ground wire install one from the truck to the trailer. I know the ball is often used as a ground but I have found with past experience that this can be a unreliable grounding source.

A homotron is a gay electron going around biowing fuses! Hopes this helps.
