SUBJECT: # 4817: Can somebody tell me abouut the ride on the Ford F350 Crew Cab 4x4??

Submitted by Eye-Crosser (207.136.3.220) from TEXAS on 12/27/2000 9:28:00 PM

I aked about this below but wanted to pinpoint a certain truck. I am leaning toward this truck as I like the extra height that the F350 has over the F250. This is not a F350 dually and I know that I am not getting a Cadillac ride. I have not been able to locate an F350 to drive but I have the order ready to move forward. My uses again are pulling a 19 ft bass boat and a 24 ft travel trailer. I also hunt the South Texas brush country, which entails the annual carry of my box blinds from Dallas. I also carry my 4-wheeler and other hunting equipment every trip. I really do like the height of the F350 but is it really too much truck or is it just minor overkill? I have heqard that the dually is a rough ride.... How does the Ford F350 Crew Cab 4x4 that I am looking at compare. Red Allison, please email me as my password will not work and I cannot get any help with it from the owners. My email is smartall@dallas.net. Thanks, Jason Smart

I have driven both and I can not tell a lot of difference in ride . There is a big difference between the SRW and the DRW F350. As you know the more load you carry , the better it will ride. I can't remember what axle is offered but I would get the 3.73 limited slip if possible. Isn't the cost difference about $600?. I would say it is just minor overkill. I would get what I wanted the first time. Just my opinion.

to clarify that. Have you driven the Ford F350 Crew Cab 4x4 SWB? Thanks, Jsson

Since I used to work for a Ford dealer. The single rear wheel (SRW) heavy duty's ride about the same. I will check tommorrow and let you know the differences in suspension, but I think it's just an extra leaf spring or two.

Jason, I own a 1999 F350 Crew Cab 2wd short box single rear wheel with the Powerstroke diesel and the ride is alot better than I expected from a one ton truck. I do carry about 400 pounds in the bed for traction on steep ramps since it is a 2wd. Several of my friends own the 4X4 version and about the only difference we see in ride is that the 4X4 seems to creep on the road worse than the 2wd. Other than that the ride is pretty darned good. We haul boats and cattle trailers mostly and that Powerstroke is a keen engine. We have 3.73 rear ends and get 17-18 mpg empty, 15-16 mpg with the boats and 12-13 with heavier loads. I drive alot (1000 mi/week) and the half tons were just depreciating too fast. In two years they were worth only $10,000. So i'm gonna try this outfit and try to drive it 250,000 mi or more and see if value is retained a little better. The F350 IS a big rig but for what you have described you need it for , should be the ticket. The only drawback to the diesel and 2wd is the weight of the motor pushes the front end down in the mud and it gets stuck easily. 'spoon
