SUBJECT: # 5089: How to get oil stains off the driveway?

Submitted by JimBfishN (205.188.193.37) from GEORGIA on 2/18/2001 6:42:00 PM

Tow vehicle has leaked oil for a long time on a concrete driveway. Some stains are wet looking and some are dry. All the stains are black. Degreaser did not remove the stains. Pressure wash? Tow vehicle is gone; stains are not. Thanks for your help. <% if strcomp("gerryb",inname,1)= 0 then %>

Powdered laundry detergent, Spic'n Span, or something like that. Sprinkle it on and wet lightly. Then work it in with a good stiff scrub brush and rinse.

Really! Go to the store and buy the CHEAPEST kitty litter you can find -- it looks like little chunks of clay. Then round up a piece 2x4 about 4" (four inches) long. Sprinkle the kitty litter on the oil and grind it into the oil stain with the side of the 2x4. Sweep away the dust and you're done. Doesn't take but a minute ot two to clean up a whole mess of oil. I just use kitty litter and sprinkle it on the stain and take my foot and grind it in and let sit. It works better on the new stuff but try it on all of it. Hope this helps. Rt

will cut the oil right off. The next thing will be the spot where the oil was will have a fresh cement look instead of the surrounding weathered areas. But it will blend back fairly soon.

    Jim,

This is the best way to remove oil stains. Tri-sodium phosphate (available at hardware, Wal-mart) mix to a heavy paste with water, lighty scrub mixture in a circular pattern and leave on concrete for a few days. It will turn white, rinse off or just let the rain wash it off.

  7. 2/19/2001 9:06:00 AM Submitted by Sleepy Eyes (64.152.241.219) from TEXAS says Portland Cement
Sprinkle some Portland Cement on the spot. Let it set over night and sweep up the residue. Bam! The oil stain is gone.

Note: Portland Cement is the stuff that holds concrete together. Portland Cement does not have any aggregate in it.
