Frost Valley YMCA Hosts Casting for Recovery Retreats

Claryville, NY - Casting for Recovery, a national, non-profit
support and educational program for women who have or have had breast
cancer, will hold two retreats this year at Frost Valley YMCA in
Claryville.
The Frost Valley YMCA retreats will be held at the organization's
Straus Center from May 30-June 1 (application deadline March 21)
and August 1-3 (application deadline May 23). This will mark the
eighth year that Casting for Recovery has teamed with Frost Valley
YMCA for these special retreats.
Casting for Recovery two-and-a-half day retreats incorporate
counseling, educational services and fly fishing to promote physical
and mental healing. Casting for Recovery provides an opportunity for
women whose lives have been profoundly affected by breast cancer to
gather in a beautiful, natural setting and learn fly-fishing, "a
sport for life."
Volunteers trained specifically for the program staff each retreat,
which includes at least two health care professionals and four fly
fishing instructors. Comfortable accommodations and healthy meals
are provided at no cost to the participants, and all the necessary
fishing gear is provided. While the casting motion provides a gentle
exercise for joint and soft tissue stretching, catch-and-release
fly-fishing provides stress-relief and promotes a sense of calm, and
the social interactions offer women a chance to share, laugh, vent
and rejuvenate.
Frost Valley's Straus Center provides the perfect setting for the
Casting for Recovery retreats. The historic inn offers an intimate,
peaceful setting that is an ideal location for participants to
benefit from the Casting for Recovery program.

About Casting for Recovery
Since 1996 CFR has served almost 3,000 breast cancer survivors
nationwide, with the help of close to 700 volunteers, in retreats
that provide emotional and medical support and teach new skills of
catch-and-release fly fishing. Numerous medical and psychosocial
professionals and institutions consider Casting for Recovery one of
the leading programs providing support for women with breast cancer.
Retreats are also held outside the U.S. through sister organizations
Casting for Recovery-Canada and Casting for Recovery-UK/Ireland.
Those who enroll in Casting for Recovery typically have their lives
greatly enriched.
"This past weekend was the most wonderful experience for me. It
truly touched my heart and made me realize this is a new beginning.
I have finally dealt with my cancer (it was a long time coming) and I
have each and every one of you to thank for that," one recent
participant commented after a completing a Casting for Recovery
program.

Thirty-seven retreats are scheduled for locations in 26 states for
2008, ranging from Alaska to North Carolina. Program costs are
underwritten by contributions from individuals, companies, and
foundations, and online donations can also be made through the
