RE: smallmouth From: 89 Champ (75.41.160.226), Arkansas
I've had excellent luck this time of year from Prarie to the Dam, lots of Smallies, have to find lots of pea gravel. Through Fat Albert grubs, green pumpkin, watermelon, watermelon red. Not deep until water gets above 70-75. This has worked out time and time again. Also try any shallow ledges around Rocky Branch. The old zara super spook is a good bet from now till the end of may. If they aren't on the banks, find some offshore humps, haven't done anygood around standing timber. You can usually find them around boulders (not chunk rock) I'm talkin big rocks the size of a couch etc..... Hope this helps.

sounds like you did better than I did. i had a 1.80# spot and 5 little swimmers to go along with it. Also used the shakey worm, caught most of them off of large boulders and bluff ends. Also saw lots of beds with small bucks on them. I caught 2 14 1/2" smallmouths and 2 largemouths that were the same length, all 4 were fat prespawn. What kinds of things were you fishing? pockets, chunk rock? What depth, they seemed to be scattered all over the place on saturday. Lots of fish but lots of small fish
scattered From: Flipper. (192.252.76.200), Arkansas
The ones I got were scattered but seem to need to have standing timber and/or docks. The thing that shocked me is how deep they were..I mean this time of year with warm weather and 60+ degree water and fish in 15-25 ft of water?? The dock fish were more shallow but the bigger spots were on the deep timber, problem was that they were not concentrated on any one spot and as you know there is lots and lots of timber on beaver so covering water is key. I would love to have the day back and start with shakey head and just cull up all day, I think I would have had better luck that way. I expected to catch them in 3-4 ft and spent way way too much of the day fishing in shallow stuff like that.
Realtors Tourney From: Slidergrub1 (70.182.25.205), Arkansas
Fished the same tourney last weekend. Broke off 2 3+ (one spot and one LM) on the hookset (should've re-tied). Wouldn't have mattered. I might have made the top three with those two, but isn't that how it always goes. As it stood, I had 2 LM and 4 spots with the biggest spot weighing more than either of the 2 LM. Caught all of the keepers in the Rocky Branch area in about 2-8 feet throwing a fluke. Sounds like I should have thrown a shakey head. Any word on how the guys that won were fishing? What will those finicky bass be doing in the Rogers Lowell Chamber Tourney?
weight From: Flipper. (192.252.76.200), Arkansas
Sounds like if you had 2 15" LM and a spot bigger than that and filled the limit you had more #'s than I did..so not sure shakey would have helped you much. we had the one 3/25 lb LM but everything else was fairly small except one spot that was probablly 2 lbs or so. I didn't see the fish that won but I did see a bag with about a 3lb LM and the rest were real nice SM probably in the 12-13 lb range for the bag..I'd guess the fish will be shallow this weekend, but hey, I guess the same thing last weekend and it didn't work out for me. I am going to start around Lost Bridge this weekend, probably throw shakey head, grubs, and maybe a little topwater. I know lots are catching fish on spinnerbait and flukes but I haven't had any luck on that yet this year. Looks like I need to take off during the week because lake is getting full fast on weekends and about 1/3 of the places I went to fish Saturday had 1 or 2 boats on them already...I hate bed fishing! I know everyone has the right to fish how they want, but I hate it because they fish the beds with the boat 2 ft off the bank and spook ALL the fish in that area so if you try to fish behind them it is useless. I usually don't mind at all to fish behind people if I am on a good pattern because I can usually catch fish that they missed if they are using something else but the bed fishing makes that impossible at least for a couple of hours until they settle back down. Anyway, tournament fishing for me is difficult, I just don't fish the same way in a tournament and am always checking the time and second guessing myself...I'd guess I catch on average twice as many fish when I just go fishing than I do in a tournament.
Night Fishing! From: Slidergrub1 (70.182.25.205), Arkansas
Anyone ever fish the Wed. nighters out of Prairie Creek? I heard something about those tourneys being sanctioned by Skeeter with an extra $1,000 if you win out of a Skeeter. Anyone with any insight on when they start and how to catch'em?
