HAHAHA Welcome....... From: Ejp (72.71.174.132), Maryland
to my world! If you want to fish fisheries like this in such a populated area you have to deal with it. Try the eastern shore of md., it's pretty, and you barely see another boat. Fish aren't as big but there are plenty of them. I pass 15 boats on Rt. 50 heading the other direction on some saturday's.
Hey, you see it Saturday on TV, it must be OK! From: fishnjim (141.152.229.132), Pennsylvania
I had "sticker shock" too. It's about the same feeling as towing a boat on I-95 when a herd of ninja bikes whizz by at 200 mph or semi's at 95. You'll get used to it, after a few years. I'm sure the fish have adapted. ps;Is it my imagination or did some of the river move around since last year? Most rivers do as time goes by, lived on the Ohio for two decades. I was down this weekend and think some places I used to fish silted in that used to be deeper. I was wondering if that new bridge and dredging had anything to do with it? Flow may have been cut off temporarily for some areas. Hard to tell, could be extra low tides, etc. But I saw alot of bank erosion and dock damage like high water or storms.

Your world EPJ is a major part of the problem. There are no standards anymore. There is no respect. We always want to point fingers, and blame others.Never taking responsibility for our own actions.I grew up in that area, and watched it mold, and deteriate. That world is lame, thats why I left the area. That place made me dislike people in general.Self destructive parasites. If God were alive, people like you would surely kill him.Evolution is the monkey , the man, and then the BOMB!So keep up with the Jones', and keep all those Yankees and simians up your way.Sounds good any way. Yea buddy, that area is toooo far gone, maybe EPJ is right get used to it or take up lawn darts. There's plenty of snake heads for eveyone.

To the fellow from Alabama who wondered if it was okay to be discourteous to fellow boaters/fishermen: Welcome to the tidal Potomac. I've had many experiences similar to yours and it's one reason why I'm so disappointed with the bass tournament crowd. Could be his experience wasn't with tournament anglers, but I had one (again) just a few weeks ago when a Pennsylvania-registered bass boat passed me, made a sharp right turn in front of my bow and shortly thereafter slipped his trolling motor over the bow and began to fish directly in front of me --- even though he knew I was heading in that direction. The boaters' behavior on the river has been awful in many instances. The word courtesy and good manners appear to be alien terms --- and in many cases because there are a couple of bucks or a prize at stake.
Youre not in Alabama anymore, Dorothy! From: mraebambr (71.125.174.220), Maryland
Thats why I switched to strictly reservoir fishing. Electric motors only and some of the most competitive bass fishing tournaments you'll find. Imagine a body of water 1500acres and everyone in the tournament blazing at 6-8mph! You want to see respect give me a call and you'll never fish tidal water again. I lived in Pensacola for 10 years and the difference between you hillbillys down there and these yankees up here is like night and day. No respect up here....and Im from here! Good Fishin....and leave ur gun at home or you will be tempted to use it!!

I used to fish the tournament circuit on the Potomac too. Region 1...Potomac Teams. and all of the other opens. Courtesy on the river is at an all time low. Out of towners are less respectful. The are probably some good folks from PA that, at least show some respect, but not many. Was fishing about 8 years ago with my 3 year old daughter in Cains creek when a PA registered boat came into the creek and demand that I leave. This man proceeded to scare my 3 year old with his screaming. He shot a flare over the side of the boat. Couldn't get a cell out that day but did have a 150/110 Jet o/b. Trimmed the motor up turned and faced him with the nozzle and BLEW out of the creek. My brother said that he wasn't on the deck when we were halfway out of Occoquan bay. Usually the river calms down after May 31st and can be a fun place to fish during the summer. Then it will pick back up around September 15th.

That day was the last time I was on the Potomac until 2005. I now fish an electric motor only club too. I have never seen a more competative club with more intense people. Since we can't run all over god's creation, the respect is very good with most (95%) of the people.

I am suprised to continue to hear this type of going especially with fuel prices. You almost have to take out a second mortage to fill a big bass boat these days. I used to complain when fuel was $1.29 for 93.

God is alive! From: Barndog (166.94.6.40), Virginia
Hey man hang in there. It's not worth the fight to attempt to reason with someone that is unreasonable. Most of the inconsiderate fishermen equate the fish they catch to their manhood. Sometimes fishing is a state of mind. VA offers a lot of good fisheries, do some research.

Guys, first of all enough with the Yankee talk. You're only a yankee if you're from north of the Mason-Dixon line...haha. I can personally say that I've never had one single incident with discourteous fisherman. I've been fishing it for 7 years. Even when there are 50 boats at Aquia-Po beach, it always seemed to me that everyone kinda established their own indivisible line. Maybe I'm just a little more tolerant than others. But, I do find all these stories amusing. I remember one from a few years back where a guy pulled up on a crowded grass field and dropped his anchor and demanded everyone back off!

My suggestion would be to go out during the week...no crowds and calm water.

I used to mind From: Tom (161.186.93.10), Virginia
It used to bother me when these idiots would pull in front of me on the Potomac while fishing a shore line of wood, or rock or any other defined area of structure as opposed to grass. After several instances of catching fish BEHIND these idiots, I kind of got to where I found it amusing. These guys hate when you hold up that nice 4lb chunk that you just caught BEHIND them. Then, of course you have to ask them if they are fishing a tournament and point how the fish you just caught would have helped their bag. I have done this numerous times, talk about getting some guys pissed, some have actually left!!

One other thing, I've had allot of PA angler's crowd me like this, what's up with that??

roll with it From: tony (71.62.110.52), Virginia
i am glad not everyone is not like that , guess i will have to roll with the punches , i was born here , and left in 83 ,lawn darts uhh , lol love bass fishing , mraebambr, nice one , i guess i should fish the chick or the james , but long ride with a boat , thanks guys , will always show courtesy towards fellow anglers, take care and tight lines
Sorry Dude! From: apexfishr (63.167.246.2), Virginia
You haven’t seen nothing yet!! Wait until the water warms and more jet skis and pleasure boaters are out there. It is NUTZ!!!!!!!!!! Fishing the tidal Potomac is a unique world. You have to realize that it attracts people from neighboring states and farther. Don’t feel like you’re alone on this. I think everybody on this board has had it happen to them. Best days to be on the Potomac are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Holidays are the worst times ever!! My advice is to have your big boat and a little boat with a 9.9HP. This way when the river is too stupid, you can fish one of the many smaller lakes in peace. Take care.
PA boaters From: shark2eatu (151.196.140.38), Maryland
I hae had problems with Pa boaters as far south as Kerr. I was waiting for my partner to park the truck one day and I idled about a 100 ft away from the dock and ramp to give others room to launch. That was when a boat started right for me then started yelling for me to get out of the way. I was out in the middle and away from everyone and he comes right at me and tells me to move. What a surprise, a PA sticker on the side. HAHA
Just don't continue the madness!! From: Chuck (138.162.5.14), Maryland
I think a lot of people come here and see these types of actions and they get so frustrated they do the same things to others. I refuse to fall into that. I seek out areas that do not get the pressure or attention, and usually avoid the idiots. If I do get crowded I just find new water. You will be amazed at the fish you catch in some very out of the way areas. Fishing during the week also helps.
