Squam From: Mike (209.0.0.29), Connecticut
Twins, It looks like you do a lot of Bass fishing in New Hampshire, I am going to Squam next Tuesday May 29th. Me and my buddies have a contest for number of fish, (not size), must be Bass though. If yo could only use three baits in this contest what would you take with you? Thanks, Mike

Mike, Good luck in your fishing competition. Only three lures huh? Tough one because about now that it is finally going to STAY warm, the SM should get hot in the next week or so. I'm no expert on Squam Lake, but I'd go with 1. Green/Pumpkinseed plastic WORMS or JIGS -dropping them off rocky points where it quickly goes from shallow to deep. 2. Medium depth crank bait 6-8ft ANY color (for shallow flat to deep drops. 3. White spinner bait for shallow to mid depths. Ive been doing well with these three as for pure numbers. As for most fun, if it stay hot then by the time of your tournament, I'd go topwater HARD!!! from daybreak till 7am on every rock pile sticking up next to deep drops and acrosss the usual points. The warming water ought to turn em on. This has worked for me. Good luck. Twins

Twins, Thank you very much, I normally use a Senko wacky rigged and have had good luck, but then my buddies copy me like a xerox machine so it will be nice to have a few other options to through out there and have some confidence in. As far as the top water goes were you thinking a buzz bait or a jitter bug/Pop R type bait?
Topwater bait From: Twins (206.183.140.244), New hampshire
Hey Mike, My all-time favorite topwater bait is/was called a"crazy shad"-silver3inch fat torpedo with a proppeller on each end. Bass knocked/tore the silver off of most of it and it still catches a ton. Its my go to bait for top. I have climbed trees to reteieve it from limbs and once I even chopped down a small tree to get it back(I couldn't find any replicas in any stores in my area). I think any silver prop rig will do fine and I'll use : it 90% of the time for topwater to cast into snag-free water. I use a slug-o topwater for grassy, woody or weedy SHALLOW water. Its deadly without hangups. I also use pop-Rs regularly and catch a lot also but only when my sons "borrow" my crzyshad and i dont have it. Buzzbaits, Yeah, good for exploring new water QUICKLY, to find active fish. Especially on shallow flats, shallow grass growing just below surface or near shallow rock piles. I'd rather catch 1 fish on top than 5 below, so its ALWAYS first thing I throw, speciall at dawn. I'm always glad to give my two cents worth of input though many here at this site also appear friendly and VERY knowledgable. Let me know how your Squam trip goes. Twins
