Frog From: Teastudo (162.24.9.213), Maryland
I dont have that great of luck with the top water lures there. I use a buzzbait with a trailing hook close to dusk with decent results. I find that the top water lures are usually only good in low light conditions.
Top Water From: Big Bite (65.242.127.130), Virginia
A lot of the frogs you fish today are that way--they seem to fill up with water and sink. Some of the newer Scum frogs are better at floating, and have better hooks now than before.

In terms of top water, I would have to completely disagree with Testudo. A top water lure this time of year, even thru the summer heat, can't be beat. I tend to fish poppers and swim worms/horny toad style baits, with good results. Some of my best days on the Potomac have been in the middle of the day on topwater.

Spro frogs From: Jeff (152.163.101.5), Virginia
I've had good luck with a small amount of marine silicone applied around the line tie. it doesn't affect the action but will stop 99% of water getting inside
Rat From: Bob (12.155.122.154), Virginia
I have caught numorous 4+ on a Manns rat bait. Throw it right on the hydrilla or eel grass in the middle of the day, and "wham". I got a 6 1/2 on a rat last year
Spro Frog From: Fishn Jim (151.199.233.80), Pennsylvania
They make several kinds and most of those new ones bronz eye, rojas, etc. are weighted and don't really float high up like a normal frog or rat. They kind of swim heads up at eye level. If you position the hook correctly they don't pick up much water. Any water inside won't effect it, since its low anyway. They pick up less water than a well warn scum frog. They are very good baits. I tend to trim the legs just a bit 3/8 - 1/2 " each side to increase hook ups.
alternatives From: Awhitten (76.104.7.140), Virginia
Had great success with lures from Cache Custom Lures called the Thunder Frog which I order after reading about it at www.bassinthegrass.blogspot.com and success on the river. It comes in a lot of colors and is 3 1/2 inches in length.
