turtle creek :( From: Brian Allen (12.206.0.112), Illinois
me and my dad used to fish there when i was a younger kid in the late 90's and we'd go at about 4 am and get there for a killer topwater bite off the weedbeds then we'd fish the drop off out in the middle and the brushpiles off the islands and the long stump row and it wasn't nuttin to go out and catch over 100 fish a day on cranks, worms, and topwater and hell you might catch 10-20 fish that were the 20 inch keeper size it was amazing, then one year we went and went and just thought we picked non active biting days and couldn't catch anything so we quit going. well last year i got a wild hair on memorial day weekend this time last year and fished two days in a row from 1 pm till dark about 8 30-9 pm both days and the first day i caught one 21 incher right off the bat and i thought AWESOME i'm onto em. well later on that day i caught one about 14 inches which would make me think the fish were reproducing and growing but i didn't catch a single fish the rest of the day and the second day I never got a bite so I have no idea on what to tell ya about the trip. I will tell ya this much I was talking to a guy at newton power plant in february saw he had indiana sticker on his boat so I asked him about it and at that point and time the plant was down and the water was colder but he said he went down one day and didn't catch a damn thing but a buddy of his went a couple days later and caught the hell out of them and caught a lot of 16-17 inchers so I don't know I wish I could help ya if I did know I'd be out there everyday still haha I know the memories you are talking about I was 13-15 years old catching all those big fish all day long that sure was a good place to go for me to train but shhheeewww they wore me out. If you hear anything or go and fish it and have a good experience I'd love to hear about it. Sorry for the long post. Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone.
Turtle Creek From: Jumbo (75.51.227.156), Indiana
A buddy of mine just had a 5 boat 2 day tournament on TC. Nothing was weighed in and nothing was caught by any contestant, no keepers, no small fish, no nuthin! Lots of catfish.

While the fishing may not be very good now according to article I read they have placed hundreds of [fish houses] for the young fish.It seems without the weeds the fry are being eaten up. They have also been stocking thousands of small bass the last couple of years. So the future looks bright for TC.

Ever since they got rid of the vegetation, it has been worthless for bass. Catfish population is at an all time high. No weeds, no bass. I fished it in the 80's and early 90's, was the BEST place for big bass but not anymore. I fished there twice last year and will not be going back. Caught catfish on plastic worms.
