Swift Creek From: Awhitten (76.104.7.140), Virginia
Russ I plan to head there early tommorrow. Got an email from a guy who landed a 4.8 bass off the point as you come away from the ramp heading right about 150 yards as the water makes it move left away from the lillypads. I have not gone up that way yet. I have been spending my time in the pads going right. I too have not had much success to speak of in the dam area. The growth this year of the pads is tremondoues. There so much vegetation its alot to cover. Have you been hitting specific spots or floating along casting as you go. I have yet to land a crappie in there yet maybe due to lure choices but it seems to be a great place for them.

Awhitten, I start fishing as soon as I leave the ramp. All of the lilly pads look good to me. I try to concentrate on the pads that are closer to deeper water but then I end up throwing a frog or worm at all of them. Then I throw a crankbait near them. I haven't caught any crappies this year but in the past I've caught them on crankbait and worm there. But like you said I haven't fish for them either. Have you ever gone left under the bridge? I think that I will try that the next time I go.
Knockin on Wood From: Awhitten (76.104.7.140), Virginia
Had another good day Tuesday. There was some school children from a summer camp fishing left of the ramp and bridge so I started to the right and came back to it mid morning. Flippin texas rigged frogs (watermelon red flake)and senkos with an ounce bullet weight in the mats and pads to the right. Theresan old pier in the middle of pad area on right bank that produced three smaller fish in the 1.5# range. The pads are starting to form channels for boats and canoes due to growth so I carolina rigged a storm swimbait at took two bass same size moving it very slowly. No strikes for me in the area with cranks or spinnerbaits along the edges. Both fish were landed with the treble hook, never landed one with the storm lures standard hook it has through the body. Early morning on my way back to the ramp area at the point a guy in a canoe lost what had to have been a 4#er right at his canoe trying to get it in. We spoke briefly and he said he has some good luck up the right side above the bridge. Between 10 and noon landed six bass and five chain pickerel. I found that knocking the wood, there alot of trees in the water here the best bet. Strikes come right after it banks off wood. Used Manns Baby Minus 1 with shad pattern. In terms of worms, I have had the best success with chartruese speckled lizards and pumkinseed senkos. Junebug has not worked at all for me.It gets pretty narrow up that way more like creeks so it easier to flip than casts cranks most of the time at least for me. Largest bass this trip about 2.5, largest pickeral about 3#.
