My best pattern was to start on secondary points, then move back into the creeks/coves. I looked for points and rock or riprap walls that were close to sharp channel turns. If you spend a little time over the Hamilton map, you'll see these in the major feeder creeks. Target these w/ your electronics to learn where the turns are exactly. You'll usually find brush or other sunken cover associated w/ them. I usually started midlake, then moved south to try and cull up. Topwaters early (over brush!!); crank baits (bandit shad imitators, 200/300) and rat'l traps through sunken brush near/along docks; jigs or shaky heads along rock or riprap walls. This time of year I like a little orange or red in my jig. Also like a little red in my trailer (I use Paca craws). Had some success w/ senkos (greens) on laydowns and shallow brush piles. Most important thing you have to monitor this time of year is your electronics. You're looking for baitfish pods. Follow them and you'll find the fish. By now they should've made their move into the creeks/coves. Good luck! B |
