Swepco From: Champion135 #10737, Arkansas
Benfishnlately, This Lake will never be what it used to be.The lake will never produce numbers and sizes it used to. Due to the fact that the bass fishing is only fair to good from Oct till March. The lake was awesome back when you had to get there at 4 in the morning just to get your boat on the lake. Now with all the parking and attention it's got over the last 4 years has made it nearly impossible to be productive. Last 5 trips Ive made over there were decent but not anything like what it was. I counted 36 trailers and boats on more than on occassion out there. It will get pounded more and more with the new ramp and lot being added. I love what they are doing out there ,but I sure miss the old days of when you had to be really commited to go and put your boat in when the temp was 30deg, Love the lake it once was. Sorry if I offend anyone, but this is my personal opinion so thanks for listening.

Me too From: Flipper #10824, Arkansas
I remember getting up at 1am and going to the lake and sleeping in the parking lot until 4-5 am just so I would have a parking spot. I also remember it being so dark and foggy there that early that the only way to get to the discharge was with a gps or follow the bank all the way around the lake from the ramp at an idle. I miss the old SWEPCO, but I'd bet if I went today I'd still catch plenty. Too many people just follow the merry-go-round of boats beating the bank and never learn to fish offshore. Last year I was getting skunked and I moved out to the middle and caught 36 fish while watching other boats just go in a big circle around the lake catching nothing.
Over-fished & under stocked From: J-Doc #10348, Arkansas
Yep, I'll bet Lake Ft. Smith gets the same pounding once it finally opens. Trouble is, they haven't stocked it yet. The only fish that managed to survive the old lake will probably be pretty small since it hasn't had large water in it for years.

I'm glad I got to fish the old SWEPCO before BASSMASTER announced it's pressense to the world and before all the attention.
