Stick Marsh From: George_W #11591, Florida
To elaborate a bit about doomsday reports given by Mr. "Guru" Porter on his pages. Let's get real -

If Mr. Porter knew what he postulates about, and pretends to know he wouldn't have had the difficulty that he had this year. He simply doesn't know all he professes to know. He is a part-time "guide", and I use the term "guide" loosely that heads to the Carolinas any time now and doesn't return until later in the year. Due to this he can't possibly know what's going on with the lake.

At any time, and on any given trip, weather can play a huge part in the success or failure of that trip. However, when the weather isn't horrible and the winds play right the catch on the Marsh is there: "if your guide really is a guide."

As to the report of death abounding on the Marsh. The "guru" claims to have seen 8 dead alligators and numerous dead blue gills. He is the only one that has seen this phenomenon that I can find, out of the many fishermen that fish this lake far more than him.

Incidentally Mr. "Guru", there is no millfoil in the Marsh and there has never been any. It simply doesn't grow here:

FLEPPC Category I Aquatic PlantsFound in Florida Public Waters:

Aquatic nightshade, Giant salvinia, Hydrilla, Hygrophila, Paragrass, Torpedograss, Water hyacinth, Water lettuce, Water spinach, West Indian marsh grass, and Wild taro, but no millfoil.

As the regular fishermen such as Don, and Steve P., who fish here and know the lake will tell you, the fishing is very good. However if you can't find the fish, then I guess excuses such as those posted by the "guru" have to do.

Still Alive From: frp22 #13213, Georgia
I read Porter's Blog on his website. Very surprised at his take on it. A group of us (4) in two boats just were there the first week in April. It was our 8th year in a row we have come down and fished the Farm. We had another great year. In one boat we caught 111 bass in 3-1/2 days and the other boat caught many more than that (biggest a little over 8lbs). The lake is still producing tons of quality fish (if you know where to go). But, they are in the same place they have been for the last 3-4 years. One thing that we noticed has dropped off is the number of fisherman. On Sat we only saw 8-10 boats on the lake, the lot was nearly empty. If I lived in Fl I would be there every week. The wind is tough to deal with but with a little perservarance you can still catch fish.
My take From: Hewes #13219, Florida
The slowdown in the prescence of fishermen is directly tied to the cost of fuel. We are not seeing much in the drivedown traffic from some of our closer states.
Fuel From: Don - World's Worst Fisherman, Florida
You're right on about the fuel causing a reduction in fishermen. I live in Fellsmere and have had to be more selective in the days that I fish. The full time guides are having enough problems booking trips without someone claiming the fishing is bad and armagedon is coming. I REPEAT.....THE FISHING IS GOOD TO EXCELLENT AT THE STICK MARSH!! All of the local "regulars" are expecting a great topwater bite to happen soon.
Stickmarsh is alive & well From: holeshot #11692, Florida
...IMHO....not much worse than a part-time guide......thinks he knows it all & only jumps in when the fishing is good... when the fishing gets a little tuff or you have to know something to produce fish then the part-timers are gone..!!

...Wannabees for sure..!!

fishing is good From: holeshot #11692, Florida
...forgot to mention one item....if Don (WWF) says the fishing is good, then it has to be completely off the charts if he is catching them.....lol
Yep! From: Don - World's Worst Fisherman, Florida
You're right holeshot and I think I agree with whatever the hell you said before.
........ From: Steve P. #10276, Florida
Two round trip tickets from NH to Orlando......$700.00

Hotel room during peak season......$100.00 per night.

Rate for a "TV star/Stickmarsh Guru" guide......$350.00/day

6 dozen Shiners because Guru doesn't do artificials......$120.00/day

The look on the clients faces when they get a call from Guru one hour before the trip is scheduled to start saying that he WON'T be taking them out for the next 2 days they had booked because he double booked and just says "sorry"................

FRIGGEN PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do more research, people!!!!
