Tough Conditions From: DownSouth #10325, Alabama
Good job Tritonone. We went up the river also and came in a distant 22nd. Seems like unless you get an early bite kicker you have to work harder to get in the money. One thing for sure, the rain was welcome in our boat. It was getting pretty hot around 11:30. It sure cooled things down. The best part was that there wasn't any of the white stuff near us. We would have left it it was. Like you guys, we flipped most of the day. Unless the big fish start showing up, it will only get more difficult with the dog days of summer approaching. The causeway bite was difficult yesterday from what I heard from the "heading south" guys. You would think the bite would have been better with the falling tide and cooler water after the rains, but it just didn't happen. <>< Big Fish From: Bob Ward #10250, Alabama Nobody listens to Bob. For years I have been telling the state conservations department and anyone else who will listen that we longer have many bass over 3 pounds in the Mobile/Tensaw Delta. We never have had an abundance of fish over 3 pounds to begin with, but now what with three hurricanes and a scarcity of rain the past 7 years, the grass is gone and the large bass with it. Some say the intrusion of salt water killed a lot of the fish in the lower Delta or drove them north. Some say with the lack of grass the bass have been easier to get to and have been harvested. I can only speak for the lower Delta, but for sure the larger bass are no longer there and I don't see it getting any better in the near future. |
