Randy, Smith Lake is a very hard lake to learn. I have had a place on Ryan Creek for about 11 years now and feel like I still have a lot to learn. One thing I know for sure, fish very early in the morning. Be sure to check any point for shad breaking the water. Bass usually will be feeding in schools of shad. Many times in the spring, there will also be salt water stripe feeding with the bass. Use some type of small top water lure and hang on. I have been using a weighted tail, no spinners, "Boy Howdy" lure for some time with pretty good luck. This lure is very hard to find and you may have to get one with spinners on it, then modify. My grandson and I caught about 12 bass Tuesday morning and back in the boathouse at 7:30 a.m.. Again, all bass caught off of points. Best of luck with your fishing.
