George, I have been striper fishing smith lake for about 5 years now and have caught several stripers in the 30# and even 2 at 38. But to confirm your suspisions on a 50#, Me and a buddy of mine hooked a fish in the spring around the bridge. He fought it for about 25 minutes until his arm cramped up and he thought it was hung up in the trees. He would pull but the line wouldnt give. He set the rod down to get control of the trolling motor. Good thing he set it in the rod holder because it started screamin again. Another 15 minutes go by and it finally surfaces, I have caught 35 pounders that didnt look half of this size. But as soon as it surfaced he spit out the hook. I almost netted him anyway but just missed him. I would have loved to weigh him, but no such luck.. Keep on at it, one of us will get him... |
