Birch lake From: ROOTER, Minnesota
spree, never fished birch lake. just ne of Grand Marais is a lake called Two Island. Great smally fishing hotspot! It's beautiful and there a lot more than two islands, and a lot of rocky humps that are not marked also, be careful. Root birtch From: Mike M. (134.129.99.137), North dakota I had about the same experience when I was up there 3 years ago. I think the lake takes a lot of pressure being the last boat access lake. I read all kinds of reports from the resort webpages that talked up the lake, which is actually a reservoir as I understand. I think the glory days are long gone on that system. Birch Lake Fishing From: Scott Bever (72.185.85.212), Florida I just spent 7 full days fishing Birch Lake (~8 hours per day) with very tough fishing. The largest walleye landed was 17 inches although I knocked the jig out of the mouth of an approximately 21 inch walleye with the dip net. Most walleyes were caught on a jig and crawler in less than 12 foot of water, fished very slowly. Although we tried spinners, bottom bouncers, crankbaits, minnows and a variety of other tactics we had very little luck with anything other than the jig and crawler. We were also able to land some very nice crappie in the 11-14 inch range on both minnows and worms. We caught exactly 1 pike while targeting them, but did catch several on jig and minnow while looking for walleye. 1 pike was decent size at approximately 5 pounds but the remainder were snakes. I spent some minimal time targeting small mouth bass but had 0 luck. Another individual at our resort pulled in an 18 inch (~4lb) smallie that I saw, but it appears that they are very scattered in the lake. In short we spent over 50 hours fishing this lake and had several days with VERY few fish. I would not recommend this lake to anyone with serious fish catching aspirations. |
