U of I Dam Fishing From: Don (216.143.55.8), Virginia
I graduated from the U. of I in 1970. During my time, there was fantastic, but little known, fishing below the U. of I. powerhouse dam. Among many fish, I caught a 3 1/2 pound crappie, a 20 pound Northern Pike and an 8 pound walleye. The biggest problem was not to snag hook the zillions of carp. That was more than 30 years ago, but I suspect that the Iowa River is healthier now and that should mean that even more fish moving up the river are blocked by the dam.

Corralville Reservoir was not a productive place to fish, except for the dam spillway in the spring, where you could always catch a few small northern pike. Like other Iowa reservoirs, Corralville was too warm for walleye and too cold for bass. Maybe something like Spotted Bass has caught on since my day.

If I wanted to catch a lot of fish near Iowa City, I would try below the University dam, at least before warm water in June.
