I sure wanted to stay longer because I knew the bite would turn on. But my son was wearing down and I wanted him to have fun also. If the weather holds I will be back there on Monday or Tuesday next week. I did scout the Nueces river at the Highway 59 crossover. The boat ramp looked good and I may try there on Tuesday. A friend and I fished the 18th and like you we did terrible the first part of the day. However we also found a little spot that produced some quality fish, although not the numbers you got into. We were using jigging spoons and ended up catching 16 and keeping 14, all in about an hour and a half and all the keepers in the 14" to 16" range. Our little spot was just off the river channel between San Miguel and the James Daughtery ramp. We have been on the Frio 3 times so far and have caught only one fish below the San Miguel. The rest have been upstream from the "Y". Just wanted to know if your success has come from above or below the San Miguel. I appreciate any info you could share. We plan on going again Feb. 1st.
