Nice Attitude From: Darrin (68.57.48.168), Virginia
What's it like to be able to walk on water when you go fishing? Hey, aren't we all fisherman? Don't we all have the same goal in mind? To catch more fish, whether its for money or not. By the way, nice stereotypes about tournament fisherman. Were you trying to hurt everyone's feelings, or just those who honestly earn their money to try and compete? What about the guy whose true dream is to earn a living fishing? I guess you just crap on him too and lump him in with you generalizations. Do you steroetype everyone like this, or just tournament fishermen? Before you go casting aspersions, why don't you take a deep breath and think before you type. You might end up not looking so much like a jerk.
110% right From: MarkVa (67.201.169.8), Virginia
Croaker is right on the money. Some T fisherman seem to think that they own the water and the fish.

I have acually had a boat from out of state pull up next to me and cast over my line. That's some nerve. If I hadn't had my nephew with me, boy would I have gone off on him. I feel it's just plain RUDE. Now that my nephew is older, I think I would not be so nice the next time. There have been many other times when T fisherman will use the bent rod sonar as an invitation to fish right along side of another boat.

Most of the T fisherman aren't cashing any checks anyway so don't tell me that it's their life long dream. The guys who regularly finish in the top spots at T's don't usually have to crowd someone out for their fish. They usually know how to catch 'em regardless.

It should be required that in order to fish a Tournament, you first have to read a book that lists the proper manners while out on the water.

Right on, AMEN From: Andy (205.188.209.71), Virginia
It's about time that we sportsman spoke up. I have had the same problem with these so called PATCHMASTERS. I recently wrote about taking my son fishing, and these jerks casting over my line and boat. I am sick an tired of rude @ssholes out there. If you guys are so good, find your own honey hole
I guess you are talking about the Potomac? From: RB Stratos (192.189.124.43), Virginia
Manners seem to go away at the Potomac in general. To many boats fishing in tight groups. It's like salt water fishing.I fished there back in April.I pulled up in the mouth of Aquia creek and counted 62 BOATS in an area not much bigger than a parking lot.If you are fishing grass,it is normal for someone to pull right up next to you and start fishing. So i guess they feel it's o.k. to pull up to the same pier and start fishing.I've seen 5 boats fishing the same pier.Fish this way anywhere else and i'm sure somebody's going to have words with you for sure. The ole saying for 20 years now at the Potomac is,if you don't the boat you are fishing in,step in the one next to you. Some things you are not going to change, just go fishing!!
Bad Mannered "Fishermen" From: Rich (63.169.117.21), Virginia
Darrin - seems as though the remarks are running 3 out of 3 who agree with me. perhaps before you go calling someone a jerk, you'll think things through a bit. I bet you are one of those who go running in on another guy you see catch a fish and start casting over his line, huh?

I've shared water with several of the 'big names' over the years in several different states. With the true "Pros" the bad manners are as rare as hen's teeth... It is the 'wannabes' who have to try and horn in on someone else's water. The true pros catch fish .. using their own resources and knowledge.

Try it sometime .. If you can't hack it, then don't enter the tournaments. Or just admit you are having problems, and ask for help. you'll get it, if you ask and are polite about it. Rudeness is inexcusable. Incompetence is understandable. Rude incompetence is just unbearable.

Don't jump on me dude because you can't catch your fish without 'claim jumping' another guy's honey hole. I've been catching mine for several decades ... on my own, thank you.

Potomac seems to be the worst From: Mike Yeatts (131.81.200.158), Virginia
I fished the BFL up there on 4/26/03 and it was really something. I wound up finding some fish on a point to a bay and as usual there were several boats fishing grass all around. I happened to be on a point, and rather close in - when another boat shows up further out on the point and starts slinging a Rat-L-Trap landing within 5 feet of my boat. Since I was catching fish I just kind of ignored him and tried to concentrate on fishing. After I caught several decent fish and he realized he wasn't gonna "Bully" me off the spot, he left. Good for me and good for him. It really is amazing the lack of manners some fisherman have. While things can get tight, there is no excuse for fishing right on top of someone.
Rich From: Darrin (208.0.238.25), Virginia
Rich, I never said you were a jerk, I said you looked like a jerk. Now I'm even more convinced since you make all these assumptions about a person you don't even know. I am a tournament fisherman, but I would never crowd someone I saw catch a fish. I know you won't believe me, and that's fine. I know how to be considerate.

But let me ask you something else. Is it just tournament fisherman who are inconsiderate? Here you are calling me names and putting me down, and you know nothing about me. Does this make you any better than these guys you call rude? Nope, not in my mind. As a matter of fact, you're worse. You're just a name caller to people you don't even know. As far as I'm concerned, there is no integrity in that.

If its rudeness that bothers you, then I agree. I've had my share of being cut off and cast over as well. But lumping all tournament fisherman into that stereotype is wrong. Dead wrong. All the guys I fish with in Fishers of Men are very considerate and not cut throat like you so callously describe. Before you complained about asking questions about reports posted here, and then you say ask questions nicely and you'll answer. Hypocritical? Then you criticize my fishing ability without even knowing me. That's not rude? That's no different than what you're complaining about. Turn your scrutiny toward yourself, Rich. Are you all that different than that which you despise?

you are a looser From: blake (67.201.150.85), Virginia
If you are so good y doin t see your face on bass masters magazine dont cry to hard cuz u cant cath any fish

Does anybody have any idea what Blake said?
Wow From: Jeff H (216.54.20.242), Virginia
Seems to me that it's gotta be one way or the other. I disagree with that. I don't think folks need to be asking or demanding what color, size, wind speed, throwing method, and number of freckles on the forehead while making a cast...some things have to be found out on your own. HOWEVER, I've seen people get VERY VERY VERY nasty when one would even ask something like "Is the topwater bite on?", or if they're hanging on points, etc, etc. I thought fishing was about going out and having a little fun. Now yes, there are some of us in small tournaments where you get not much more than bragging rights, and we may only have one day to prefish...not all week...and may ask for some VERY general information. You can't HONESTLY tell me that there is not a pro out there...or even a FISHERMAN out there that every now and then spends a day being stumped, and asks other guys at the ramp how they did, or what type of cover, etc. Now...to address the ignorance and rudeness of being fished on top of...I've been known to catch a few lures....attach them to an anchor, cable, tree, etc....because there's NO excuse for things like that. Ok...not that I'm important or anyone gives a rip....just wanted to add my two cents! IMHO....people just need to lighten the heck up...if someone asks for too many details...then tell 'em they're asking too many details...no need to bash someone over it.
Just my 2 Cents! From: basscatcher (68.15.159.136), Virginia
There's always going to be people who won't put in the time to find their own fish. They want you to tell them where you caught them, what you caught them on, when you caught them, what color, and everything else. Most guys wouldn't mind sharing a little info, but almost 100% of the time, the guy you tell will be sitting on your spot every time you're not! "Community Holes" are nothing more than spots somebody told the wrong person about. Get what info you can, but take it somewhere else on the water and try to duplicate it. There's nothing worse in my view than going to another guys spot after he told you about it. It's like a guy telling you how good his wife is in the sack and you going there every chance you get to see if he's telling the truth. It just ain't right!

By the way, I've fished the Potomac and seen the way the guys fish up there. They are the rudest, most inconsiderate fisherman on the planet by far. It's just like saltwater fishing in the bay or ocean. They literally believe that to find fish on the Potomac, all you do is ride up and down the river and look for the boats fishing together. The fishing is incredible on the Potomac, but it sure ain't fun!

Agree From: Chris C (66.107.70.16), Virginia
I agree with everyone! I am a tournament fisherman, and most are flat out, unbelievably rude (though I typically am not). Here's an example that even the so-called professional anglers are the same way.

My good friend took his aluminum tracker into Bryan's Cove a few years back. And who was there but Jim Bitter! And he read my friend the riot act -- he was staking out this area, did my friend not know who Jim Bitter was, etc.etc. So Old Jim comes back to the first day weigh-in with a mid-teens bag, and is 5th or 6th. So my friend and I met in seperate boats at the ramp Friday AM, and decided to teach Old Jimbo a lesson in respect. We arrived in Bryan's Cove at 6:30 AM. The place was absolutely loaded, and we FLAT OUT CRUSHED THEM. We each had over 20 lbs in the boat for 5 fish. Thanks to a fog delay, we were able to fish until about 8:30 AM without seeing Old Mr. Bitter. Well Jim comes roaring in as we are slowly motoring out. Good luck, we said. You'll need it.

Jim bombed the 2nd day. At the weigh-in, he just couldn't understand what happened. All he had to do was - nicely - tell my friend that he has located a load of fish here, and would appreciate it if he would lay off the area that day. He would have. But to berate him, belittle him?

That move cost Mr. Bitter the tournament. I wonder if he knows?

Chris

fishing info From: fish-for fun (67.30.206.195), Virginia
I have the perfect solution for those who want free information. FIB ( not that any fisherman worth his salt would actually lie). I have been known to leave all of the most worthless lures I own, laying all over my boat when honey-hole stealers come up to my boat to ask "what, where and how" and then I tell them that I caught them in the worst, most fishless creek that I can think of. After a while they take the hint, or at least they're up a creek somewhere else away from me!
Rude Fishermen From: Rich (63.169.117.20), Virginia
Darrin - Oh gee. you are correct in everything you said, and I was so wrong. Will ya forgive me ... Puleeze??? Oh golly gee, I am so sorry I stepped on your toes. I should have recognized you were the only one here who knew anything, and NEVER have questioned your first remark.

Wil ya forgive me??? huh? huh? huh? LOLOLOL

Well did anyone? From: Carlos Hathcock (68.65.165.192), Virginia
