Spooled on 6# From: Corn (209.179.232.218), California
I fish 6# for everything, haven't given anything a chance to spool me. Try this, if you're getting spooled/broken off anyways don't let those fish run, apply manual pressure and try to turn those fish. You might unbutton more often than you would get broken off(check for frayed line), but at least you won't get spooled too............

Have you ever boated one of those fish that you let run away???

I usually lose those fish too, because they'll wrap you on something down there if you let 'em.......

Good Luck.......

Hey Corn, while I was there I saw some guys that were using fluorocarbon leader. I'm gonna try that next time, they seemed to be wide on the stripers. As for the 6lb, the reels that I had with me were med ultralight spinners and they didn't hold very much line, the fish we were metering were down 40-50 feet so when we got bit 2/3ds of my line was already off the spool, luckily when I had to tighten up on them because there were only a few wraps left, the line broke off at the fish. I did have one break me off on top, it was about 15lbs.....See ya on the water.....Warren

Warren, I absolutely believe in the fluorocarbon line.

About four years ago, we had this Old Buck on an Albacore run slaying them when no one else was even getting bit, nothing but Jig fish, but this guy was getting bait-fish on every stop, Albies and Bluefin. We were flylining baits on 12-15# and still not getting bit.........What was he doing that we weren't doing??? He was fishing with a swivel and a leader, but no weight???

On the way back in, the old guy cut off one of his rigs and handed it to me, told me it was 20# Fluorocarbon.

I've been sold on it ever since, in fact, I fish it straight as a top-shot(6# VANISH) on top of 10# MONO on both of my Curado 100's. I'll split a 250 yd. spool between the two reels( I USE A BLOOD KNOT FOR THE CONNECTION - I'VE NEVER BEEN SPOOLED TO THE KNOT SO NO PROBLEMS THUS FAR, I'D TRY THE OLD STOP AND TURN ON THEM BEFORE I'D LET THEM GET TO THE KNOT........)

I have no doubt that I've been getting bit more since I started using it.......

Good Luck

Corn, just picked up some 8lb fluorocarbon from my buddy and I think i'm ready to put the hurt on em. The shad should be in full swing in a couple of weeks, I can't wait. Last year we had an epic day on the largemouth. I sent western outdoor news a pic of my girlfriend and my buddys son and they put it on the front page. I didn't tell her about it, she found out when the calls started pouring in...lol...hope to meet you on the water sometime...by the way anyone hit up Pyramid lately???? Went 3 weeks ago and my buddy caught a decent striper trolling a castaic but that was it for the day.......
Pyramid From: Corn (209.178.158.131), California
I was thinking of trying Pyramid on Friday, if I can get the day off. My brother's on vacation this week and he's been itching to take his daughter out, probably chasing smallies in the morning and then fishing the stripers.

If its a go, I'll post my trip on Monday..........
