Diamond Valley From: Warren (66.159.204.217), California
Russel, thanks for the info. Hey is it legal to net shad that are in the lake and use them for bait? Also, do the Bass there eat trout? Is it worth it throwing the big stuff?...Thanks for any info in advance......Warren
Dvr From: Brent (12.80.122.58), California
Great news, Thanks for the info. Are you going this weekend? I have reservations for the 18th. Hope to see some reports posted before then to find out the scoop once theres a thousand boats on the water.

Good luck

Questions From: Russell (207.217.195.76), California
It is legal to net shad

It didn't seem that it was going to be worth it to throw the big baits. There were 217 original fish 3 years ago which are all probably above 10 lbs other than that all the other fish came from the spawns so the largest they will have had time to grow to is 6lbs.

I will post my report on OCT 4

Oct 3rd From: Jason (66.14.227.64), California
I will see you out there on the 3rd Russell and I too will post my report on the 4th. I will be with Russell so if he tries to exagerate I'll set the record straight.

Please Please Please practice catch and release lets keep this fishing hole packed with fish so that we can enjoy it for years to come.

Dvl From: Doc of BH (64.167.15.139), California
Thanks for all the info..will be there Sun 5th...does anyone know of any topo maps or websites with depth/structure info? Catch and Release with sharp hooks....treat these fish with the care they deserve...if you use live shad PLEASE CUT OFF THE #@!&%*?# HOOK if it's too deep! I'll send you a quarter for the hook. I found a 8.1 lb'er floating in Castaic Lagoon sunday morning, his stomach pulled out of his gut. There just happened to be two guys on a big bass boat netting baitfish and livebait fishing. Half and hour later I couldn't save the fish ....PITIFULL!
DV Lake From: Rednekk (66.133.206.17), California
Mike, the Biologist, should know what he's talking about, since it has been DFG's private fishing lake for the past 3 years. I recently got a sneak preview of the lake. Fish will eat any lure. Fish are eating and swallowing the worms (deep hooksets), so use a barbless hook, or bring a pair of long nose pliers.

Also heard from the DFG Staff that the bite has slowed down right now. Earlier this summer, it was fish on every other cast, to 7-8 lbs. Right now mostly 2.5 - 5 lb fish. Numbers given by Russell seem to be accurate. The fish fight hard!!!

Good Luck to all those going over the next weeks and months.

Keep it down. If too many people fish this place the fish will have sore mouth in 6 months and it will be another So. Cal. lake where its difficult to catch a decent limit. I should have known some rookie would go to the seminar and broadcast the info to all the meat fisherman. Oh, by the way the lake is down 35 feet. So, you'll have to figure that out. And you'll be lucky to catch 20-30 fish per two man boat if you're a stick. And have the right spots. You won't be moving around much. Thats for sure.
Dvl From: blufinhker (209.179.240.4), California
HI guys I fished the lake on Sept 27,ok here we go.The lake was fished on the 26th as well and they did a real number on the fish. The fishing was great on Saturday but not Super Great like we have heard.I dont know if it was the fishing pressure from Friday or just a slow day of fishing. As I waited for my fishing partner to get back from parking the truck I made a cast to a rocky point and caught my first DVL fish it was a nice fat boy around five pounds. We headed down the lake to a nice point and started to fish first cast it got bit and I swung and missed second cast was a hook up I was throwing plastics 7 and 8 inch in size, my buddy was fishing top water had one blow up on it but that was it. We caught around 7 fish off that point than moved to another. It got hot early which shut the bite off some what. Most all fish were caught in 15 to 25 ft of water off main points on the lake.Tried everything but the texas rigged worms worked the best for us.The bite got hot again around 4ish but we had to get off the lake. For the day we caught and released 50 fish around 8 were soild 3.5 to 4.5 fish our biggest was my first one caught in the marina. The rest were nice fat boys around 3 pounds these fish fight very hard I wouldnt fish with nothing less than 10#.All our fish were caught on plastics in the oxblood color red flake and Aaron's Magic.I hope this helps alittle tight lines and I will see you next Friday for opening day.

Sorry this rookie broadcast the info for all the meat fisherman.

Like the place didn't have 1000 calls in the first hour for reservations.

Sorry I told everone about your secret fishing hole.

Sorry I'm not as an accomplished fisherman as you.

Sorry I ruined the whole sport of fishing.

Sorry your a dork. Sorry your face looks like that.

Oh the lakes down 35ft what will I do, I can't figure it out. Maybe if I was you I could think of something. I better cancel my reservation, I won't catch anything anyways. The lakes down, the lakes down.

Anyways this lake should improve the fishing at all our lakes with one more fishing option it will relieve the pressure on all the other lakes improving fishing everwhere for everyone even the rookies even if your not a stick. Thats for sure.

Idiots From: Fishhead (12.80.123.61), California
Right on Russell!

Who is this moron that thinks nobody has heard of DVR or that nobody else knows how to fish. Has he read or should I say can he read? Any of the thousands of articles printed in the last few months. My god man....Ease up. We only want to catch and release a few ourselves so chill out about "YOUR" not so private fishing hole.

Practice Catch and Release so we all can enjoy the bass. If you're that damn hungry then try bluegill, trout or catfish or even better yet, how about you only spend a few dollars and go to the freakin store and buy some fish. That way theres not so many boats on the water trying to catch dinner.

Amen!

Hot tips From: Corn (209.179.234.24), California
Good Deal, Russell. Who is this clown, TITSANDBASS. Maybe he should be out catching SANDBASS. Why does he know everything that we've been discussing for the last few months. I haven't read any of his reports. . We all post our reports and comments in good faith, in hopes of maybe picking up a tip or two along the way. It seems to me that he's been reading "OUR" reports, probably fishing in "OUR" spots, and then doesn't even have the courtesy to post a report himself, forward a little 411. Besides, if we're all rookies, what the hell does he need to be reading our reports for, so he'll know what not to do??? Keep up the good word Russell. We're all out there doing our thing every weekend, theres plenty of water for all of us. It certainly helps when we're able to stick a few fish along the way, and we can all use a little help...

diamond valley lake From: dirty (4.40.126.111), California
i'm so excited that the wait is nearly over. i'm one of the lucky/unlucky ones that has opening day reservations. lucky because first to fish (without dishing out half my paycheck) and unlucky because i get this feeling that launching will be worse than a "zoo in chaos". never the less if i survive the launching, i'll try catch some 3 lb trout and some 2 lb bluegill and some 6 lb bass, i hope to have enough meat to last a week. don't worry i won't keep any bass under 12". remember, catch and release. the more fish that's in the lake, the better chance i have of putting it on my dinner table. "catch and release". don't worry i'm only bringing 1 fishing buddy and she just likes to fish for bluegill---after she's caught her limit of 6 lb bass.

I hope you both choke on a bone....
Good Times... From: Doc of BH (67.118.92.175), California
Come on, fellahs...we all know that a guy like "T&A" really just suffers from having a small...fishing rod. And the other one who hasn't figured out how to press the shift button for his caps...I mean really...do we have to worry about these mental midgets? If some guys want to bait fish, let them. I've met good guys who do it..it's just not for me. We all stopped using live bait because we like the challenge and skill it brings to our selves and our sport. I'm sure we all love to learn new techniques, find out about different presentations, colors, retrieves...it's a different language reserved for those who years ago gave up doing the SAME THING over and over again. How you do one thing in life is how you do everything in life. If I don't catch fish I look at ME, not the conditions, water depth, line size, striper population, Mars conjuntion with Jupiter, ....you know these guys always blame somebody else for ALL their troubles. Have a Blast at DVL....and post it!
Dvl From: blufinhker (69.33.35.184), California
The launch ramp is great it has eleven lanes, dont get there before 4:00 am as the highway patrol will right tickets for blocking the road.I heard they will opem the gates at four and get us in though the first two gates to get us off the road.My friends fished last Sunday and only caught 16 fish for 3 guys,so I think the pressure is already getting to the fish.I did see two trout caught last week one was around six pounds and the other was four pounder these were awesome fish. Good luck and tight lines!
Rentals.. From: Doc of BH (64.160.26.131), California
2 questions...has anyone seen/been in the rentals...anty details? size, hp, trolling motor..etc..and how the heck have all these folks gotten on the lake already? I thought 10/3 was the openner?
$ $ $ From: Corn (209.179.129.165), California
I think they had an auction, or some kind of "fundraiser" or something. It was open to everyone. From what I understand, it wasn't cheap. Basically, for whoever could afford it, it was way to buy yourself a spot on the lake before it opened to the general public. I think that they were actually fishing last weekend 9/26--9/28. I read about it on the DVLAKE.COM website, oh, a couple of months ago now. I would hope that those are the only people that have been allowed on the lake???

Rentals and pre fishing From: Brent (12.80.124.148), Wash, d.c.
From what I understand the "Bass" boats are very similar to the ones at Barrett Lake. 14 foot nice and wide but also have 25 horsepower 4 stroke engines.Dont know if they have chairs or benches or steering wheel or manual. There were tickets sold to pre fish DVR last weekend that were going for $250 a day Fri, Sat or Sun to fish from SHORE and $500 a day to launch your own boat.Talked to a guy that went and he said him and his friend caught close to a hundred fish. One of his other friends was throwing nothing but the big swim baits and only caught 10 fish with the smallest around 7 lbs and the largest over 10. I cant wait until the 18th.
rental boats From: Russell (207.217.195.76), California
The rentals have a two fishing chairs one in front one in back a livewell trolling motor 25HP

You can kind of see a picture of one on www.fishingnetwork.net

Dvl From: blufinhker (209.178.183.203), California
The rental boats are nice Triton alum, with trolling motors depth finders and 25 horse outboards. As far as people fishing the lake there has been a ton of people fishing it besides the fundrasier from last week. Two fridays ago the water dept had there group of people in there after that the press had fished it.My buddy was getting his boat insepted Tuesday and said there were boats on the lake as well.So it has been fished quite a bit as of late.
