Bass Fishing From: Glenn (4.60.29.97), California
If you don't already have one, I'd pick up the new topo map sold up in the general store. It's good and shows many of the points and high spots.

Fished yesterday and found 57 to 58 degree water conditions everywhere. Fished mainly 30' - 60' depths with the dropshot rig and ended up with (8) fish averaging 2.5 pounds. Look for the shad and fish VERY slow, almost deasticking the bait. Straight 7" worm in Oxblood light worked best.

Even though I knew better, I tried the Osprey and Megabait swimbaits in the morning. Clear skies are never good for the trout baits.

Best of luck.

Fished Saturday 12/27, 3 Anglers - 6 Trout

We fished for a few hours, drop-shotting plastics, pig n' jigs, dragging Senkos on the bottom. Nothing. It was getting REALLY cold. Air temp was in low 50's @ 8am, with a high of about 60 @ noon, with wind chills in the 40's. Water temps were from 57-59 degrees, slight breeze from northwest made for a little chop, but not too bad. Still, the wind was cold and so was the bass fishing, a little too much work for my Holiday weekend. I talked to a guy at the head that told me he saw a guy catch/release about a 4-5# bass on a brown plastic worm???

We pulled into the marina about noon(on our way home) and noticed some boils, just to the east of the launch ramp. We started throwing roostertails at the boils and ended up with six trout to 3.5# in about an hour. They were all fresh stockers with no fins and rounded tails. The biggest one had a hooked jaw and a mouth full of teeth, but he surely wasn't the prettiest trout I've ever seen. I'm sure they'll look better breaded, in a frying pan...

Good luck fishing the bass, and please post a report on how you did.

Corn,

Good to see people are still watching and posting on this site. Havn't seen any California posts in months. I've been fishing DVL pretty regular and have caught fish every time. Not always a lot but usually nice fish, Some up to 7+ pounds. VERY light bite, sometimes feels like dead weight. Try 6" purple worms or pumpkinseed baby brush hogs carolina rigged with about 2' leader and 6 lb. line. Caught most of ours in 10 - 20 feet of water. I read a post on the fishingnetwork.net website that said a guy was trout fishing by the marina and hooked a small trout, as he was reeling him in a 10+ pound bass inhaled it. He naturally lost the bass but it's good to see that the swimbaits should really start to work with a few more stockings. FEED THOSE BASS!

Look for me and my buddy in a new 750 DX Nitro white w/ blue & silver 115 Mercuty Optimax. We fish there almost every weekend and during the week when we can.

Brent,

Its kinda cool now that you can just roll-up without reservations. I figured it had to happen eventually, there are only so many of us anyways. I guess they do need to limit the rental boats, and they do seem pretty nice. Dude, I did that for too long, I'm getting too old for those tin boats every other weekend. I broke down and bought a new Nitro also, a blue and white LX with a 4-stroke Mercury. I love it. So far, she's treated me nice. How do you like yours?

Thanks for the 411. Carolina rig, huh??? Are you still catching those fish in 20 feet of water? In 58 degree water??? Are you finding any warmer water anywhere??? It seemed pretty constant, wherever we were on the lake, 57-59 degrees. I wonder when these fish are gonna start staging for pre-spawn. I know its gets really cold out there at night, probably close to freezing. Remember this year, a lot of our lakes had an unusually late spawn. I scoped out some nice spots I'd like to try in the spring, I can hardly wait...

The Nitro is awesome. We got to be the same as you. NO MORE clanking, smoking, leaking and not to mention expensive rentals. Dvl is an awesome lake. Havn't got into any large #s days say over 5 fish each half day, but the fish are allways quality and fight like freshwater yellowtail. I posted a report for Monday 12/29 on the front page . Probably be there Saturday & Sunday. Sunday for sure. We've been getting to the lake around 7 - 7:30. TOO COLD early and we've found the fishing to be the same all day in certain spots. I'll look for you. Can't miss the new Nitro.
