Date Fished: 5/11/2004 Water Temperature: 82 Launched from Lakeside Landing 6:30a.m. under partly cloudy skies with light and variable winds. Air temp was about 70 and quickly rose to the low 80's by early afternoon. I was dead set and determined to catch a top water fish this morning and probably stayed at my first stop longer than I should have. I had several blow-ups but no takers. After an hour, I finally connected with a couple of nice"ns(see pic). I caught my top water fish using a Lucky Craft Sammy 100 chartreuse shad. There's nothing like seeing the water explode and feeling the weight of the fish on your line. I caught a mixed bag of fish today consisting of spots, LM's, stripe and even an old cat fish. Caught about a dozen fish all together with the best 5 bass going 12-13 lbs, mostly LM's. Besides the Sammy, I caught fish today using the Pointer 78(chartreuse shad), Pointer 95(bleeding shad), Flat CBMR(green apple) and the old stand-bys 1/2 oz blue/chrome Rat-L-Trap and the Bandit 200 splatterback. All fish were caught in shallow water 2-5 feet deep. This was the first time I've really fished the Pointer 95 to any length. The 95 is a segmented jerk bait with a feathered tail hook. It performed quite well. I didn't have any success with the finesse worm today, maybe tomorrow. As usual all God's creatures were released alive and well.
