Have not posted in a while so I thought I'd give a Candy report. I've been out there 4-5 days a week since the season began. The lake never ceases to amaze me and it goes to show that Candlewood is really one of the premier fisheries in the Northeast. If you look at the tournament results for this year they are incredible with the number of good size fish caught, especially smallies. All last week the fishing was incredible. I was out both by myself and with clients and it was no problem to catch 50 plus fish a day, mostly smallies but quite a few largemouth also. As far as where to go it did not seem to matter , all you had to do was get a pattern that you liked and run with it, and there were lots of patterns going on.Bed Fishing, Topwaters, Cranking, Soft Jerkbaits,Spinnerbaits to name a few. With the warm temps the weeds grew a whole bunch and cleared the lake up. The beds were still hard to see and the inside grass edge was and still is the deal. The smallies are mostly done spawning and the largemouth still have a bunch to bed. With the full moon in 10 days the next couple of weeks should be on fire. My son Christopher and I fished a small tournament on Saturday and ended up winning with over 25lbs for 8 fish . Most of these fish were caught bed fishing with Lunker City's new bait , the heavily salted OZMO( a creature bait like you never have seen before!!!), the rest of the fish on a topwater and a whole bunch on a sunfish colored Rapala DT-6, with a few largemouth on a 3/8 oz Chartreuse War Eagle double willow spinnerbait. Give the lake a try , you will not be sorry!!
