Salutations Fellow Hawg Hounds!

Fished Sain Creek arm of Henry Hagg Lake last Tuesday. Got there about 4pm and launched my Bass Pro Air Sled (trusty inflatable!) amongst the picnickers.

It was hot then, and man'o'man is it hot now! A light consistant breeze was breathing cool air up the arm, blowing out any flying bloodsuckers.

Had a partner with me again, making for good company and cheer. I hooked us up on rapalas with no weight, let out about 40' of line, and rowed up and down the outlet of Sain Creek. I quickly took note of where we got strikes - tight to the shoals where ever underwater growth was present.

We hooked and released four largemouth and one crappie before I switched us out to Senkos (always thank Roger Luce Bass Guide extrodinare for turning me on to these babys!). 3" Purple w/glitter, no weight, tied palomar style on 4lb test.

My partner (sister Melanie) was not used to fishing senkos in the brush and thought she was hung-up a few times. A simple stiff jerk would always pull the rig out.....so when Melanie called out she'd hooked one, I asked her to hold the rod still. Bend, but no twitch of the tip, so I took the rod from her to jerk it free.

(Did I say thanks to that bad'boy of bass'n - Roger Luce?)

Well jerk I did and as you've guessed by now a fish jerked right back. Now you know your drag is too tight if you begin to feel bend in the lower half of your rod, not to mention your rod tip doing the boo'ga'loo towards the drink. Then my line began to rise until a big largemouth bass broke surface, amazing us with an olympian worthy double twist (onlookers scorecards equaled 9.8). I loosened my drag, savoring the sweet sound of reel stripping. The fish ran three times before coming to the boat.

Now I'm kinda of a big fella, and my hands are large. I've only caught two largemouth in my fish'n days where my fist would fit in their mouth. This was one of them.

My best guess'timate is 5.5lb and 26 inches. Perhaps the fish gets bigger everytime I recollect it, but to be sure - I had my sister take two pictures of this be behemoth bass. I'll post these on the Henry Hagg Lake page at fish'n Magician HQ as soon as I get them.

This gorgeous fish was released unscathed, but this can't be said about my boat. Shortly after releasing the largemouth, the cigarette in my mouth bumped up against a life jacket, and half the cherry went spindling down into the bottom of the boat.

ssssssssssssssssssssstttttttttttttttttttt.

Luckily I keep repair tape onboard. I was dragging ass all the way in.

Hey - whats the deal with the Myocastor Coypus (Nutria) in Hagg? Can we shoot this oversized rats? How long will Washington County allow these forgein vermin to destroy the environment?

Best Regards,
