Date Fished: 9/14/2004
Water Temperature: 69e
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

My brother-in-law and I fished Spectacle Lake the week of 9/12-9/17 while vacationing in Wisconsin. We didn't have a water temperature reading so we estimated it to be in the upper 60s. This is second year in a row at Spectacle. It's small and we're still learning the lake. Found no weeds in the narrows like last year. (This area of WI had some cold August nights.) Sunday, 9/12, Sunny and in 70s, air still in AM, breeze picked up later AM. Caught 6 bass, assorted largemouth and smallmouth 2-3 #s on crankbaits (rattling shad rap and bass magnet) and senko-type (watermelon cotton candy) worms. Also caught a 20" Northern Pike. Monday, 9/13, bluebird sky and a little breeze. In AM, caught two bass, a 15" largemouth and 13" smallmouth, both on bass magnet just before quitting to go into town. Should have stayed out a bit longer. Tuesday, 9/14, storms rolling in. Caught about a dozen assorted largemouth and smallmouth in AM on the senko worms. Went back out after lunch and caught a bunch more in a heavy rain, on senkos, plus a 6# northern. Very good day. Wednesday, 9/15, stormed all day with lightning, no fishing today. Thursday, 9/16, fished in AM and caught 1 LM and 8 SM, all 12-14" on the senkos again. Not bad considering we fished about 3-4 hours and the storms we had the past 36 hours. Friday, 9/17, fished in AM again, caught 2 LM and 5 SM (one SM was 2#). Two SM were caught on back to back casts. All on the worms.

Most people we saw were fishing for panfish and were having a slow time of it fishing the cribs in the lake. We seemed to do pretty good on the bass, and the two northern.

We'll be back again next year.
