  Subject: Twin lakes, Connecticut

Submitted by Pski's Angling Adventures (ip 192.249.47.9)

Date Fished: 11/7/2004
Water Temperature: 50
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

Twenty four teams showed up to a packed ramp at Twin lakes. We were going to be in for a great day. Unfortunatly, we had wind gusts of probably over 20 mph, but otherwise, it would have almost been shorts weather! Of course the morning was chilly at between 34* and 41* but as soon as the sun got up a bit, things warmed up nicely. Afternoon temps were around 63*

At least ten boats headed for West Twin Lake and I'm sure others visited. My partner, Grady, and I headed out there also but being start boat, we were last of the wave to get in. A lot of folks like to head out to West due to its abundant milfoil beds versus East that has had its Milfoil basically wiped out. At the end of the day, West Twin came out as the clear winner. Both lakes have clear, late fall/winter patterns but it seems like the bite just wasn't on in East today.

The most astounding cath of the day went to B. Slavis/P. Bristol with only four bass but, weighing in at 20.93 pounds Anchored by a 6.85 pounder. That wasn't even lunker though! Big fish of the day was a 6.90 bass Those two biggest fish came from East Twin. It certaintly seemed like it was a Brush Hog or Jig day but that big fish came on a spinnerbait. Eight bass over 5 pounds today and three of those were over 6 pounds. WOW! It was a strange type of bite though being that there was not many 3 or 4 pound fish, instead, lots of 13" bass and then big bass.

Todays Winners: Lunker: D. Lackey/J. Morneault - 6.90# 4'th Place: J.Puhalski/S.Garrison - 5@ 12.36# 3'rd place: H.Gordon/R.Conley - 7@ 14.72# 2'nd Place: B.Slavis/P.Bristol - 4@ 20.93# 1'st Place: J.Puhalski/ G.Allen - 8@ 23.99#

Grady and I basically caught 12 keeper bass from two spots, on two baits. A 6" Blackberry Brush Hog rigged on a 1/2 oz Gambler Tungsten screw in weight, 5/0 Gamakatsu straight shank, round bend hook, rigged Texas style. Pitching to the dying milfoil in about 8 to 10 feet of water, gave up 9 of our 12 keepers. The other three, and two of the big fish, came on a Lake Fork tungsten jig in black/blue with a Stalker, Jumbo chunk in black/blue flake. The jig fish bit in deeper water away from the weeds in about 15 to 17' feet of water. In my opinion, 12 keepers on November 7 is a pretty good day. I would love to have other folks experience the big fish bite of October and November. Saw 49 to 51* water in West Twin and don't know what the water temp was in East.

Another succesful Snowball Team Open on Twin Lakes (except for the parking , Sorry guys). Looks like this will be the end of tournament season until '05. Oh well! There is always the hard water. -------------------- pskisanglingadventures.com
