Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

WOW ! what a day for Canadians Brent Daoust & Steve Woods. With this cold from on us and not expecting much action, the day turned out pretty good. We started out with water temp being only 68 degrees and little action, then finally Steve caught the first peacock to break the ice. When the water rose to 70 degrees the bite picked up as they started to chase top water & jerk baits. As Brent continued to toss shiners to the bank and letting it drop deep off the ledge, the bass were coming out and attacking the bait. As we moved down the canal spotting one every now and then the boys had their fun catching. I then spotted 2 nice Peacock's on a rock, as we approached them they moved down off the ledge into the deeper water. Steve caught the 1st one on a shiner about 3.5 LB. , knowing that the bigger one was still down there we continued to work the area. As Brent was free spoiling his shiner on the next cast, I noticed the line was running off the spool a little too fast, knowing that he had a fish, I shouted set the hook, with a quick hook set , the fight was on, Brent was in a battle with the largest Butterfly Peacock Bass on the year. After stripping the bail 4-5 time every time it neared the Triton, Brent landed his trophy, a 6 LB. 7 oz. Florida Peacock Bass, which after several pictures was released for the next angler to catch. At the days end the boys boated 11 Peacock's, what a great day considering we had a front come in on us. I credit much of my success to using Daiichi Bleeding hooks on my lures and also when pitching shiners. If your down for the holidays or this winter and you want to treat yourself to a great fishing experience give me Capt. Frank Carbone "The Hawghunter" a call, you won't regret it. Good Fishin'.
