Submitted by King of Fayette (ip 64.123.11.154)

Date Fished: 3/12/2005
Water Temperature: 71
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

This was our annual father/son fishing trip and had friends in from Atlanta Georgia and we stayed at the cabins inside Oak Thicket. This was our fourth yearly trip and the first year we experienced such tough fishing conditions at this time of year (we've been lucky in the past)

Fished Fri/11 from 8-12noon and 4-dark and Sat/12 from 8-10am and from 4-dark----

Water temp ranged from 69-71 degrees and was app 2ft below dock.

On Friday wind was from north to NNW at about 10mph in the morning and after 4 pm was almost dead calm. Saturday was STIFF 15-20+ from South to SSW. Clear skies both days.

Caught several fish Friday using C-Rigs/spinnerbaits/crankbaits in the 9-12ft range. The fish we caught were mostly in the pound to 2 pound size with three that went over 5lbs. They were 5.0--5.3--5.4 as we have 12 + 13yr old boys who had to weigh everything you know. It was tough fishing 4 to the boat but we managed. The 4pm-dark Friday portion was the most productive as you could actually "feel" the bite and set the hook accordingly.

Saturday at 8am we put in and there were alot of people out on the lake but decided early on that we'd had enough of the wind and came in for awhile. It appeared that about 75% of the others felt the same way too because that afternoon there were only about 10 cars in the parking lot. We caught several fish that afternoon just tailing c-rigs behind the boat off the main points and managed to hook fish that ranged from 3lb up to 5lbs-5 ozs. Two fish broke us off that would have went higher but we never got them close enough to be sure. It was tough fishing in high winds.

Sunday the 13th we didn't even attempt to put the boat in the water as winds were just too high. There were probably 15-20 cars in Oak Thicket lot. We left for home at about 10:45am

I noticed several fish were still full of eggs in the range of maybe 50% vs the ones who'd layed already. Caught several healthy males with no "non-steroid" fighters to be found. The boys had a ball, Dads did too....despite wind factor, a good time .

One other note: Several ski boats seemed to have invaded the lake as well as a first time sighting by me of a "sailboat" on Fayette on Friday afternoon (the period of no wind). I had NEVER seen a sailboat on Fayette before.

Tight Lines to all...hopefully the wind will die down and we can all get back to fishing Fayette in better conditions soon. KOF
