Date Fished: 4/11/2005
Water Temperature: 63
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Went out with my wife for a couple of hours before I had to go to work in the afternoon. If any of you out there who read my reports wonder why I keep going to the same place to fish, it's because this pond is very close to my house and I can get out and fish even on days that I have to work. Also, I don't have the money yet to buy a sportsmens license package for me and my wife yet and also I can't spare the gas to drive to Rollins lake, Elk Fork, or Krodel Lake and still have gas to get to work. That being said, we started fishing this morning around 9:30. We first tried the upper pond. He has two ponds with both being about 1/2 to 3/4 of an acre. I started off fishing a fire tiger colored 5/8 oz. Bomber Square A crankbait, varying the speed from medium to stop and go to reeling, pause and twitch but didn't get any hits. My wife was't doing any good with her yellow Berkley Gulp nuggets and after about a half hour, she left me and walked down to the lower pond. She quickly caught a green sunfish on her first cast and I gathered up my gear and hurried to join her. When I got there I saw two bass on a nest, so all you folks out there who farm pond fish, the bass are starting to spawn now. The she pointed out a commotion across the pond and said I should go over and try to catch whatever it was in front of the cattails. I got over there and promptly caught a 14 inch, 1 lb 7 oz bass. It wrapped my line around a cattail and I had to wade out almost knee deep to get it. I caught it on a 1/16 oz. Spotsticker jighead rigged with a Zoom 4-3/4" finnesse worm in watermelon with red flake color. I fished it on my 6 1/2 ' FLW 7100 series medium action rod with FLW spinning reel spooled with 8 lb test Berkley Vanish Transition flourocarbon line. I also caught 2 green sunfish on the same lure and my wife ended up with 7 total sunfish, so, all in all it was a pretty good morning. We stopped fishing at 11:35 am.
