Okay I pulled a Donnie Sims (cut my head off in the picture) But thats probably a good thing :)

Had a great day today on the lake. Actually started off Turkey hunting early this morning and I heard a little bit of gobbling early but once they hit the ground they shut up on me ;(.

After hunting I spent most of the day on the lower end fishing. Right now you can catch fish to your hearts content. Numbers were outstanding today with huge numbers on a Sammy 100 in Metallic Ayu. The topwater bite lasted from the time I got out of the woods to the time I left 8am-6pm and I left them hitting it was an all day ordeal even with the boat traffic they were still drilling the sammy. I easily caught 50 + fish in the 1-2lb range and probably lost another 30 or so and had god knows how many blow ups I had. Every big fish that hit I lost trying to lip them at the side of the boat. I probably should have just swung them into the boat. I lost an easy 5lb largemouth a pair of 4lb spots and one 3lb fish. I just couldn't seal the deal on the larger fish for the life of me.

The pattern was fishing chunk rock at the mouth of the spawning flats to about 1/2 way back to the spawning flats. DO NOT shy away from the pollen. Most of my bigger fish were caught under the pollen that has concentrated in the pockets. They will bust that sammy 4 feet out of the water through that pollen in a heart beat. There is very little pine straw in the pollen now so getting hung up is not an issue as it was last week. Just be sure to have a Senko as a follow up bait for those fish that blow up on the Sammy and miss the hooks. Senko color = blue pearl and I like the 4 incher (9S Series) with a 3/0 EWG hook on 12lb Fluorocarbon. I did try some bottom baits, Mini Me's and jerkbaits with minimal success.

The spawn is getting very close. I saw quite a few BIG largemouth roaming in the shallows and I did see 3 beds but the fish were not locked on as of yet atleast on the lower end. I would think a few more days you will start seeing a big wave of spawning fish into the shallows. I found 70 degrees on a few of the spawning flats and none of the fish I caught today had red tails..
