Water Clarity: 0 Fished Candlewood Lake on Sat 4/23. This was our clubs 1st annual open tournament (Long Island Bassmasters). We had 23 boats registered 22 showed up. I did not participate in tourny was on hand to help with check in and weigh in. But did fish after everyone went out. Lake is down about 2 1/2 ft. Water temp ranged from 48 to 52.3 degrees depending on location. Clarity between 3-5 ft again depending on location. Fished Heddon Pt, Little Neck Cove, Thistle Island areas, not my usual areas but not my boat. Caught 11 fish 1 SMB over 3lbs, all others between 1 1/2 - 2 lbs,one LMB about 2lbs. Fished jerkbaits, tubes, also tried a little drop shot with smallie beavertail. All fish taken in 12-15 ft of water, they were suspending hitting pods of baitfish. Obviously we were not in the right area. The winning team produced a limit of 8 fish all SMB total weight 31 lbs 11 oz, all fish caught in less than 6ft of water, 2nd place again limit 8 fish total weight 30 lbs 7 oz, again all fish shallow,lunker was a 6lb 15oz LMB, largest SMB 5lb 15oz, there were at least 6 other SMB weighed in over 5lbs. Rumor had it Turtle Bay area was hot, thought no one would confirm with the Kerchal the following day. All in all I had an enjoyable day excluding the weather, it was great to see these huge fish put back. No dead fish at the weigh in.
