  Subject: Little Sebago, Maine

Submitted by Steve Field (ip 69.205.252.18)

Date Fished: 5/18/2005
Water Temperature: ?
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

Fished from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. What a difference a year can make in conditions. Last year at this time the LMB were on the spawning beds and I had one of the best days of fishing in my life. Our weather this year has been considerably cooler and rainier, and the fish are still very much in pre-spawn mode. LMB are cruising the shallow areas in schools and alone, but are very spooky and I could not get any strikes from them. Threw everything I had at them but little interest. In one cove I saw a gathering of 15 to 20 LM, including one sow that had to go 6 pounds. Tried shad raps, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics on them. Moved to another area where the smallies hang and had better luck. While not on the beds yet, they are setting up on wood structure and are starting to defend their areas. Managed to catch 5 or 6 in the 2 pound range before a front blew through around noontime and shut down the bite. These were caught on shad raps in the smelt pattern. Keep your spirits up and your heads down fellow Mainers, it can only get better from this point.
