Subject: Lake Charlie Capps, Mississippi
Date Fished: 6/4/2005 Never put eyes on this place before. I found it to be an interesting lake with a levee practially all the way around it with rip-rap. It’s very shallow with the deepest spot being 7ft. Most of the lake is 3 to 4 ft. Lot of timber still standing with pretty good cover around the edges and man made islands for wind brakes. I found the water to be remarkably muddy with only 2 to 4 inches of visibility. Surprising since there is no feeder creek. Must be due to the delta gumbo it was built on. Put in at 6AM on Saturday and were the only people there until Noon. 2 of us fished pretty hard until 1:30 and only boated 3. Healthy looking fish with the largest at about 2.5. All 3 were almost albino looking due to the muddy conditions. 1 on a wacky style rig and 2 on a crankbait. Started with no wind but by 12 it had kicked up to about 10mph. I imagine you couldn’t stay on it on a windy day though because it’s in the delta with nothing to break the wind other than the few islands. Didn’t do very well, but I’ll bet it would be a good lake in the fall when the fish are more active. Wannabe...
