I fished the Donny Mac tournament on Sat the 11th. Fishing had been pretty tough last week, but on Friday we got on a pretty good jig pattern despite the cloudy and slightly rainy conditions. I suspected that would not hold up too well, but since we finally had a good practice (21-22 lbs) I thought maybe, just maybe I could catch them in the rain on Sat.

I hate rain, I hate clouds and I hate wind. We had all three during the tournament thanks to Arlene... Oh yeah, nothing like a tropical storm to make my day. Sort of like walking nekkid for 9 hours through a briar patch. I spent most of the day pitching, praying for one good bite. I caught one fish on a jig all day long, and we culled that sawed off dink later on throwing big worms and spinnerbaits. I had to wipe the rain and the tears out of my eyes when I finally put the jig rod down, that really hurt.

Anyway, we caught a lot of fish, I can't remember when we've caught so many small fish, and a lot of 2 to 3-lb fish. We finished up the day with 5 that went 16.33 pounds. I don't think that got a check. A lot of big weights came in from the deep fishing crowd, and a few good bags came on a blade.

A 10" Yum ribbon tail, (red bug color) rigged with a 1/8oz tungsten TG bullet weight and a 4/0 hook on 17-lb line caught a lot of fish for us today. We swum the worm. A Booyah 1/2oz chart/white Counter Strike spinnerbait also did well and caught a couple of our "better" fish. It was fun to get the bites on the spinnerbait, they about ripped the rod out of my hand, the braided line is a blast on a blade.

Get out there when you can, as you can tell by the weights and the numbers caught today, the lake is slam full of bass. Someday, one day they'll get grouped up and hit the jig...

Thanks to Donny Mac for another great tournament. Check him out at www.oashow.com and watch is program when you can. I've enjoyed fishing these tournaments and watching him for a good many years.

Put them back alive.
