Fished Wilson again with a lifelong friend during the very hot weather we had the last week of June. Fished 8 hours a day for two days (morning and evening shifts). The fish would eat nothing but senkos, with green pumpkin, watermelon, pumpkin, and red being the hottest. Even though we made every attempt to set the hook immediately upon the strike, quite a few fishing completely inhaled the senko and had 4/0 hooks in there gullet to remove. We are rigging the senkos weightless texas and you need a heavy and large hook to set well. Any ideas on how to better liphook these fish?

The results - 25 fish per day, nearly all largemouth. Best five ran 23 lbs. Big fish 22" 6.5 lber. Biggest smallie went 2.8.

Quality over quantity as the results show.

Next we fished the Penobscot River off the oldtown ramp with guide John Gonya of Penobscot guide service.

This day ranks in my top five ever experiences, including Stick Marsh/Farm 13 in Florida and leased ponds in Oklahoma.

7 hours produced 75 smallmouth, using grubs and firetiger rapala topwater. largest 19.5" with at least a dozen over 17 inches long.

The thrill of knowing you are likely to catch a good size smallie behind every boulder if you place your topwater right is awesome. Thanks to John for putting us on fish.
