Hi fellow bassers, sorry I haven't been posting my trips lately, I've been pre-fishing Graham lake for the last 3 weeks for my club tournament. The water in this man-made lake is VERY dirty like a cup of coffee with creamer added in. I found a spot after a long search that had some clear water and looked like a place where big smallies would hold up if the conditions were right.( this lake has only smallies in it) Me and my partner Larry ended up starting first yesterday morning in the pouring rain and made a long run up to my spot. I started out with topwater and Larry a jig and after about 6 cast a 1.8 smallie crashed my topwater and as we were netting that, a big 3.8 smallie jumped behind the boat and i looked at Larry's rod and the line was straight out and he grab it and with my fish still in the net, I netted his and that was a great way to start the day with a double. We fished this area for quite a while and Larry hooked up with another big smallie with only 4 feet of line out right at the boat. He had just said he missed a two pounder and threw back out and was reeling in and he said theres one and set the hook. Just the sound the rod made as it bent over told me thats no two pounder and I got so excited that I not only dropped my rod to get the net but THREW it overboard.(luckly at that time I was throwing a big topwater) The big smallies got to jump twice and them into the net, 4.32. Later on, I was throwing a spinnerbait and got a solid hit and it jump high and I told Larry to "get the net" we'll need it on this one. It just kept jumping like it has neved been hooked. It would juimp and dive and just keep going. I set my drag and got it to the boat and it went under it and then I saw the line start to come up and it came out from under the boat like a smallie rocket and when it did, it shook it's head so hard that it broke my spinnerbait in half and all I saw was the blades going one way and the big smallie about 4+ pounds going the other. We ended up getting another couple of nice fish to end up in first place with 14 pounds and lunker 4.32 out of 9 boats. The weather and the hazards in the lake kept most boats from going up lake to the cleaner water. This is one lake that practice paid off as this is the first time I have ever fish Graham lake. Lots of fish in this lake but lots of small fish. If you want to check out the clubs results you can see whats going on at centralmainebassers.com I also fished Stetson pond with my good friend Jen on friday and we had a blast. The weather was great with clouds and sun and very little wind and we caught a lot of largemouths and a few smallies. All the fish were in cabbage and we caught them throwing topwater over the cabbage, worms, jigs and spinnerbaits. Mostly fished in 6-8 feet of water. This was the first time in two years Jen was able to get out and get back to a sport she loves to do and I made sure she caught some bass which she did and had a ball. I hope everyone had a great 4th and enjoyed the outdoors. Life is what you make of it, take time to make time my friends and enjoy it, DAVID
