Well to start of this is my first time posting a report. I've enjoyed reading reports from around my general area and felt it was time to enter one my self. My son and I headed out again this morning a little later than usuall, about 7:30 am. Decided to let the kid sleep a bit more. Wind was up a little and the rivers suface had just a bit of chop to it. Didn't notice it when we were under way though it was a nice smooth ride up river from Hartford. River was up a bit because of the recent rain and it muddied up the water some. Usually that would have been a big turn of for me but I was determined to go out and enjoy the perfect morning. Started on a channel drop off in about ten feet of water with no success. My son was getting a little impatient since we were there for about an hour. Time to move! Hit another drop off, again about ten feet deep, that has been very good to me in the past with some strong smallmouth but only got two short fish on plastics and a gator my son got with a spinnerbait. About a 8 pounder for the kid. Just what he needed to get him going. "Picture". Time to change our pattern! Since the water was a bit stained I felt we should try fishing the weeded edges of cut banks. The current was'nt as strong and I'd need the trolling motor very little. We were fishing Senko's in water mainly around 3' to 6' in depth. Tried to concrentrate on the heavier weedbeds and they were tough to see. Stayed on them using the Garmin. There were a lot of fish showing up. Fished that pattern for about two hours with dad getting three largemouth and my son hookin two. All of them were about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4. From that point we hit a little cove that was'nt very deep,2'- 3', but liked what I saw with the weeds and laydowns along the bank. WHAM!!! A nice three pounder that hit like a freight train. Took my bait and was'nt going to stop runnin any time soon. My son made a great net catch and we threw her back in after a quick picture. Not more than 10 feet down the bank my son hooked into a nice 2 1\2 pounder then another three pounder. More photo's. We fished the rest of the cove catching two more apiece in the 1 1/2 lb range. It was time to go. The rest of the family was waiting on us to go out and enjoy the nice weather. Overall it was a great day (four hours or so on the water) with a total of ten bass (all largemouth) and the one pike. Can't wait till next time. Love the river... I've noticed the CT. River receives little feedback from area anglers and really can't understand why? Maybe the bassmen and basswomen just want to keep there catches to themselfs? That's fine I guess!! It's a GREAT fishery that has more to offer than just the fishing. So get out there and catch some fish and some sights! mrfishinct
