Date Fished: 7/13/2005
Water Temperature: 72
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Fished the big bass tournament held every Wednesday afternoon with a co-worker. No threat of any late day storms however it was cloudy and a bit cooler than the previous days. We headed to a shallow flat in about three to four ft of water. Isolated weed beds were the hidding spots for the bass. Started with the senko and had a four pounder swip at my bait on the second cast. Made several more casts to no evail. My partner hooked into three largemouth bass with in ten minutes. The biggest one was about 1 1/2 lbs. Glad to see him get of to a good start. I had him get in front of the boat with me to give him an equal chance on making productive casts with the senko. I switched over to a 1/2 oz. white spinnerbait with big nickel willow leaf blades. About five minutes into using that I had a smallie smack the daylights out of the bait. A nice 3 pounder. Fished that spot for about an half hour or so then moved further up stream to another flat. Had several hits but nothing got buttoned. My partner wanted to try a spinnerbait also so I hooked him up with one of my spinning rods. He was fishing it in the same manor I was. Casting up stream parallel with the bank. He had the inside(closest to the bank)of the weed line, I had the outside. We were in anywere from two to six feet of water. He hooked into 3 pike, one being about a ten pounder, and two more largemouth. I managed 4 keeper size bass. Fished that pattern for about and hour and then moved to spot three. Wanted to try some deeper water with some plastics. Opted to use a Yamamoto kretcher grub rigged texas style and a half oz. sinker. Current was swift and that weight got the bait down quick. Had no luck with that and switched to a crankbait. There was a lot of loose floating weed which made that bait a nightmare to fish. Managed to hook into two decent smallies before putting it down. Had about an hour before weigh-in. We headed back to our first spot since it was the most productive and caught five fish between us on the spinnerbait. My partner increased his weight to nearly two pounds. Weigh-in was easy to get to since we were up river from Hartford. Didn't have to deal with the no wake stretch that takes you about 15-20 minutes to motor threw to get to the ramp at Riverside. Most guys, including myself, have gone threw full throttle only to have the cops on jet skies come chasing after ya. No fun getting yelled at. Most of the time you get a warning. Get stopped again and it's ticket time. Most of the guys were weighing in pound and a halfers to two pounds. Normal big fish are three to four pounds. My partners fish weighed 1.90 lbs. Smallmouth was 3.05 lbs. Winner had 3.30 lb largemouth. So close. All and all a nice evening out fishing with a great bunch of guys!!
