Water Clarity: 1 foot Hot weather seems to affect the fishermen more than the fish. The bass remain in grassbeds in 2-4 feet of water and on creek ledges. Outgoing tide seems to be best and the soft plastic stickbait in green pumpkin with orange or gold flake is a good choice of colors. Topwater bites end early with the intense sunshine and most of the bass seem to be in the milfoil beds where the milfoil reaches the surface and forms a canopy. Many times, as the stickbait enters the water, you can see the bass come out from under the grass and strike the lure. Poppers seem to be the most effective topwater bite with the hot water temps, with very few bass coming on buzzbaits. However, on super calm days, a 1/8 oz. black buzzbait worked quickly across the surface results in good bass, but only during the early morning hours. Glamour Shad 1/4 oz. spinnerbaits will catch fish, but they are not as effective as the stickbaits. The bass don't seem to want to chase a lure, just eat it when it falls in front of their noses. The key right now is to slow down and thoroughly work a grassbed before moving on to other areas.
