Hi fellow bassers, guided on the river this past friday with a couple of bassers from the great state of New Jersey and had a great time. The weather had changed from going to be a bright sunny day to a more cloudy with sun so we started off over a big grassbed with topwater and right off Joe had a hit but the smallie shook it off and that happened a couple of more times. It seemed the smallies were interested in what was going on on top of the water but wouldn't commit(must have been male bass)lol. ANYWAY, we went to throwing worms and started to catch some fish but nothing of size so we switched spots and saw a nice 3 pounder by a rock in a grassbed but it wouldn't hit. We then went to some rocks and Joe had a hit right off in the rocks and a nice smallie (2-2.8 pounds) came up and went airborn and that was all she wrote. After a few more smaller fish, Mark hooked a very nice 3.8 pounder that couldn't make up his mind if it wanted to jump or run, so it did both for the next 2-3 minutes Mark had a fight on his hands. Did I mention Mark's about 14 and loves to stripper fish? So this little smallmouth is just a warm up for him.(lol) We finally landed the smallie and released it to fight another day. The water for this time of the year is high and really clear for the river, I wonder if the all the rain we got for the WHOLE month of May had anything to do with that..... So again we ended up catching a bunch of smallies but few of the quality fish I'm used to seeing. The fish are spread out and not bunched up in one area but are willing to do battle anytime you dare to visit them. It was my pleasure to have had the chance to fish with Mark and Joe as it seemed to be such a short day as we had a lot of fun and time just seemed to fly by as it always does when we're not watching it. Take care my friends and I'll be talking to ya soon, DAVID
