This report is for Tuesday, July 26th. I took my two sons Robbie, who is 8 and his little brother Matt who just turned 6, to my neighbor's pond for a couple of hours. Matt said he wanted to bass fish and told me he wanted to use one of my spinnerbaits. I got out my spinnerbait box out and let him pick out the one he wanted to use. He picked out a 3/8 oz. Booyah Blade spinnerbait that had a chartreuse skirt and tandem gold willowleaf blades. So I tied it on for him and he went to work with it. Robbie was using the little Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow crankbait in chartreuse and blue. I started out throwing a 3/8 oz. Strike King Premier Elite spinnerbait with a chartreuse skirt with a nickel colorado and a gold willowleaf blade. Well, shortly, Matt got the spinnerbait hung up in the brushpile at the base of the standing tree about 35 feet from shore. He handed me his rod so I could get it loose for him and here's where things got interesting. After getting his lure unhung, I was reeling it back in for him when about 10 feet left to go, a bass rushes out from under the shoreline algae and hits the spinnerbait and starts carrying it off to our left. I quickly set the hook and gave Matt his rod back and told him to reel this bass in. It's been 3 years since he caught his first bass on his own over at Elk Fork Lake and I felt that he was long overdue for his second one, and boy was he ever excited. After a short fight I lipped his bass for him. It measured 14 3/4" long and weighed 1 lb 9 oz. Its the biggest fish he's ever caught so far. But the fish destroyed the spinnerbait, straightening the wire beyond fixing. It was the only Booyah spinnerbait I owned as my other 25 or 30 are all Strike kings and one Spotsticker. After taking his picture with his bass, we let it go and Matt said he wanted to go back to bluegill fishing, so I put on a bobber and hook with some Berkley Gulp for him. Robbie was'nt having any luck with the little crankbait so I put on the same bluegill setup on his rod that Matt was using. All I caught was one little 9" bass on a Strike King 3X zero in watermelon with red flake. So little Matt ended up with the big fish of the day, which is as it should be I guess. So take a child fishing with you when you get a chance. Tight lines. <")))><
