Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

I haven’t been posting much this summer cause this is the BASS Fishing Home page and it’s been mostly crappie fishing for me the past 3 months. I have had the chance to go more the past 2 weeks and here is what I’m seeing.

Rayburn is very short on deep hydrilla. The deepest green stuff I’ve been able to find is in about 8-9 feet. Right now, with water temps running in the high 80’s, this is just too shallow to find big bass. Early and late, you can catch some decent keepers around the hydrilla, but not many big ones. I have been using a light, Texas rig Trick Worm or weightless Super Fluke in Watermelon Candy to catch em around the shallow stuff. Try to find points and edges that drop off into deeper water, say 12-15 feet on the edges of creek channels.

After the sun gets up, you will need to move out to deeper drops and ledges to find the fish. Carolina rigged Super Flukes and Senkos in watermelon or Green Pumpkin are working on the deeper stuff. Also try deep running cranks in pearl/green back and Chartreuse/blue back. Main lake and secondary points are the best places to look.

Also, if you know anyone with any deep, 20-25 foot, brush tops out, you certainly want to check these out. We have caught more 6 pound plus bass this year while crappie fishing than the past 5 years combined.

For the freezer fillers out there, the crappie fishing is very dependable. Morning trips on the pontoon are averaging 50-70 keepers. It has taken a lot of brushing and rebrushing, but the rewards are worth it.

Hope this helps ya’ll out. If you would like to book a trip, or just talk fishing, give me a call at 409-489-0444 or visit my site at www.rogerbaconoutdoors.com.
