Hi fellow bassers, well yet another club tournament has come and gone and this lake was the toughest I ever seen it in years. The spots that we fished starting out in the morning was in 3-8 feet of water around wood, cabbage, lily pads and grass and always held a limit of at least 2-3 pound l/m and we didn't get anything for 3 hours throwing jigs. We switched over to worms and my partner connected with a smallie that was just under 3 pounds. The weather started with no wind and bright blue skies and BRIGHT sunshine so we stayed with our plan to really fish this area because it held everything including baitfish which was why that smallie was in there. We were drifting by a log and about 4 feet down it I saw something moving around and I told my partner Larry to look as we watched not only one but two 4 pound l/m swim away and they were suspended up the log and of course they wouldn't bite. I did get a solid bite later in that area and as I set the hook all that came back was line and the feel of a nice big fish that kept on going. That happened a couple of times to me during the tournament so it was no surprise to us that we ended up in 6th place out of 10 with all that "luck" I was having. Oh ya, and for no reason I can come up with, my fishing glasses broke in half at the ear piece so it was just not our day to win no matter what we did. On the other hand, a father and son team that has been doing very well in the club won the event with the biggest weight I have seen in a club tournament in years. It will usually take from 12-14 pounds in five fish to win and they came in with just under 20 pounds and got lunker that was 5+ pounds. A great job for a hard working team. The wind picked up later in the day and if not for that I thing everyone might have had a hard time getting a limit. The water was much clearer then in years past and higher so the fish were spread out and not bunched up and that made quite a big differance too. Well, take care friends and have a great day on the water. DAVID
