Water Clarity: Not reported

Had the pleasure of spending yesterday fishing on the Delaware River near Burlington, NJ with Bobby Uhrig owner of MegaStrike and Cavitron.

We had a good day (by Delaware River standards) concentrating mostly on wood cover. Bobby caught his fish (4 total) pitching a ½ ounce Black/Blue “Original” Bass Stalker Jig and I caught my fish (8 total) fishing a Reaction Innovations Smallie Beaver (also Black/Blue) rigged on a 3/16 ounce Spot Stalker jighead. Both of us also used heavy doses of MegaStrike on our baits. Bobby’s jig produced the bigger fish. His biggest was around four and his average was probably 3 to 3.5. My fish averaged 1.5 to 2 pounds on the finesse bait I was using.

This is the third time Bobby and I have fished the Delaware together and he has made me a real believer in MegaStrike. The tidal flow was very strong at times making it difficult to detect bites. You didn’t have to worry about that though, because once they inhaled the bait, they weren’t letting it go. Most of the time, we would present the bait up-current from the structure and let the current take it into the structure where the fish were holding. They would just sit there and inhale it and you would feel the weight when you reeled up the slack.

We did try some other baits during the day. Bobby had several blow-ups on a Cavitron “Bleeding Bait Series” buzzbait but it seemed like they were just swiping at it and not really taking it. Also had the same thing happen with a spinnerbait a couple of times. The fish were tight to the cover and you had to put it the bait right in front of them to get them to commit.

Thanks for a great day on the water, Bobby. Also, that new Triton 21X of yours is an AWESOME machine! Ya done good!
