Headed up to Wononscopomuc with son Jonathan today. Got on the water about 10 am and fished till 6:30 pm. Looked like an ideal day for some top water action but, try as I may, nothing really much happened. Got a few strikes on a Zara Spook but nobody but a small pickeral were really into eating the bait. Slapping at it yes, eating no. They were eating my kids 4" purple worm though. As we worked out to the point of the big point near the ramp, the action started out on the deep edge and once we got out on the tip of the point were it forms a nice deep ridge, the action really started heating up. Got a couple aggresive fish on spinnerbaits but then it was down deep. Somewhere in the 16 to 20 foot range. While he was playing with his worm, I was playing with the drop shot set up. I was using a 5" Roboworm in Aarons Magic and I just could not keep the pickeral off this thing. A few bass came on it also but I was getting pickeral most every cast.

We moved off to another subtle point on the south shore and started to go to town with a Jig & Pig. Since Jon had done so well on that purple worm, I rigged up a New England Craw jig with a big purple Stalker chunk. This worked OK but not as well as Jonathans black/blue jig. He continued to whack them good and I picked up the drop shot again. Got a few bass and a bunch more jumbo pickeral.

After action slowed a bit in this spot, we moved off to another weedy ridge near the rock island and instantly had on a double, mine on a jig, Jonathan on a spinnerbait. The boy then got three more in a row on the spinnerbait before I picked mine up and nailed a couple. These were some nicer bass with a few approaching three pounds. I'm always amazed how healthy the Lakeville bass seem. Big fat bellies and gorgeous colors. Again we picked off the aggresive ones then slowed down with bottom baits and got a couple more.

Off to the nearby point coming off the rock island. Out on the tip we got a few on the spinnerbait again around all the boulders on top of the point but the deep water didn't do as well here. We did work down the side and Jonathan was popping LMB's on a jig, worm, and of course he had to throw a Brush Hog into the mix. I stayed with the drop shot as I was getting plenty of action, mostly pickeral, but enough bass to keep me interested.

Time to hit a couple of humps. Boy! were they hard to find with the weeds cut down and low light. We found them anyhow and Jon got a few bass while I kept playing with the pickeral

Ultimently, what we found today was better quantities of fish off the points, slightly away from the grass a bit. Though we got a few on two humps, they definetly liked the points better. Some of the pickeral I was getting on the DS today were in the 4 to 5 pound range and tons in the 2 pound range. Most bass were 1.5 to 2.25 pound with a few coming close to hitting 3 pounds. Total for the day was 33 bass (Jon 22/ Me 11) Somewhere around 30 to 40 pickeral with Jonathan only gettin about 8 while I took the rest. Two Bluegills, 2 Rock Bass, and a yellow perch. Left the camera at home of course. Too bad, 'cause some of those long green fish were in the trophy class.

Six pound test and a medium light spinning rod sure was fun using the drop shot. Even though the pickeral were loving that set up, I stayed with it just due to the steady action.
