First off....Is anyone fishing or what??? I haven't seen a report from anyone in a while. On to my report for Sept 13. Fished the Upper Niagara yesterday and today with my bro. Between the two of us we caught 10 fish yesterday and 4 fish today. Yesterday started on Lake Erie out of the Small Boat Harbor and mainly fished the breakwalls, the gaps, and the rip rap at the Coast Guard Station... No fish. Pulled out since the Lake was a little rough and put in on the River at Tonawanda, and then made a long run to the west branch and started drifting at about the Fix Road Park if anyone is familiar. We were casting spinnerbaits and smaller jighead and spinners over grass and along weedlines and hooked up with 4 bass apiece... one smallie 2lbs. and seven largemouth all in the 1-2 lbs. range. Small fish but they love to run in the river. Someone will think I'm crazy, but gotta throw this out there... Largemouth were all typical coloring but jawline did not extend past the eye, am I crazy or has someone else ever noticed this?? I've been fishing for awhile but was questioning my ability to identify fish. Anyway, ran back up around Grand Island and started drifting right past the bridge (Grand Island bridge) and tried the same thing, along the weedines/ grasslines and hooked up with 2 pike. Don't like the toothy critters so they were quickly gilled and released. No joy with bass here. Went out today and on the water by 5:30, ran up to Tonawanda Island and fished the rip rap on the west side and between the 2 of us hooked up two smallies 1-2 lbs. Ran over to the canal, no joy, so ran back over right before dusk and drifted the west side of the Island again and hooked 1 small rock bass and a beautiful smallie 3-4 lbs. Put this out there, i approximate my weights because I've never kept a scale on my boat and I try to quickly release all fish. Check the pic if I can get it posted... Casting spinnerbait and she took it on the drop. Anyone out there with some good advice on techniques and such, please respond.
