Water Clarity: 0 I had to take my boat to Portland to have the motor worked on:( So on the way back I decided to stop and try out one of the boat launch areas from shore. The fish Gods smiled on me this day. (I believe it was the boat launch by Rowena) I started off with a floating Rapala in the perch pattern. As my rapala neared the shore I noticed a large brown fish following my rapala. I donned on me that this was a smallmouth in 5-6 pound class:). I tried with no success a few more times with a rapala, tube, and spinnerbait. Frustrated I went for the secret weapon, a fluke and senko, one of them had to work. On my second cast with the fluke (white) I felt the obvious tick of a rock I popped the lure free and felt two more ticks. When I drove the hook home I was disappointed as it felt like I had a salmon. I soon learned it was the fore mentioned bass. When I finally landed her I had no scale and no tape so I layed her on my arm. After a pat on the belly I turned her loose. When I got a tape measure I learned she was 21" long. Probably 5.5-6 pounds. Not my longest ever but probably my heaviest.
Tips: Fish slow around deep water. Make sure there are some rocks and weeds around.
