Hi fellow bassers, went over to my home lake yesterday and went looking for some big l/m's. The town of Newport drains the lake every year to help clean out the algie and keep the water clean and they started this process about two weeks ago and the lake is already down alot. Rocks you don't normaly see are three feet above the water line and underwater points are now out of the water. The bass will hang around these points as ambush areas as the alwives are pulled out of the coves and into open water. These are are where I started my search and found two l/m on two points that measured 16 inches a piece. Not bad for a start. I was throwing a white spinnerbait right up against the rocks and when they hit it you knew you had something and it didn't have to be huge to put up a great fight. I went to a point that was almost out of the water to look for some smallies and found a nice school that was willing to hit my spinnerbait. Here is what I got in about 15 minutes on this one spot...17, 14.6, 18 and 14. Now,usually the l/m are bigger but not on this day as the 18 inch smallie was my biggest fish of the day and this was the first time I have found a school of them anywhere. My next two l/m were also off of points 16, and 16 and one small 12 inch smallie topped out my day. I fished for about 4 hours as the day started out foggy in the morning without a hint of wind and by mid day the wind was blowing hard at 25-30 mph and I called it a day. The day went as my trip to the river went, switching back and forth from spinnerbaits to rattletraps. I did manage to catch that 18 inch smallie on a spitn image but that was the only one that wanted it. As the water continues to drop and the water temp drops, the bass will be on a feeding spree until it gets to cold for both of us to be moving around, so I will be back at it again soon as my vacation starts soon and I will have 11 days of bird'n and bass'n. Take care friends and i'll write soon, DAVID
